I: The author is trying to inform us of something by giving us facts or trying to teach us something. Some examples are newspapers, bulletins, playbills, biographies.

E: The author is trying to entertain us by trying to make us laugh or tell a story. Some examples are short stories, poetry, fiction novels, plays, movies, tv shows.
