I loved this one. I think it is such a great way to get to know your students without the pressure of having them talk and then they can draw.

Tip: I think with this one I would state that students do not have to share. If they want to share then great. I think sharing in small groups would also work. Or some students may not want to share at all. Which is okay.

This project was so fun! I am in a Grade 1 practicum class so I was thinking to make this more attainable I would have to have everything cut and I think I would get them to colour the mask before we glued it together. There will be some students in the class who would need minimal help and could help others.

Tip:Start with a strong base by using a full sheet of construction paper or doubling up layers for sturdiness. Fold the paper in half to cut out symmetrical shapes for eyes, noses, or other details. Use tabs or loops of paper to attach 3D features like ears or a snout. Add depth with layered colors and textures, and secure it all with glue or tape. For wearing, attach string or elastic bands carefully at the sides

I really did not know what to expect with this assignment but once we got into it and I knew what we were looking for it was so fun. Of course being outside is always the best.

Tips: I think this would be much better with older students. It would be very cool to do for a photography unit. I think grades 4 and up of course would be able to complete this with cameras if the school had them. I think with younger students showing them an image and have them go and find and then bring it back to show you with leaves would be fun.

Chopped Art

I had not a clue what to expect with this, but again, so much fun to do and watch what the other groups did. I think for my littles I would do very simple things and I think I would include some things that are pre-built like the little house we did in ours above. It would be manageable but more prep. I would also maybe do a lesson on popsicle sticks and how to glue or tape together things before I would do this lesson to make it run a little smoother.

Tip:When creating "chopped art" from cut-out materials, focus on layering! Start with large background pieces and build up smaller details on top. Experiment with overlapping shapes, textures, and colors to add depth and interest. Use glue sparingly to keep your pieces clean and secure

I think working with the clay was up there for one of my favourite days. The emotions exercise will stand out and I would love to do that exercise with my grade 1 practicum class. For primary it would be nice for them to use an object rather then words for SEL.

Tips: ask students to wear older clothes or have lots of aprons. I think being prepared and have a few extra set of hands with my grade 1s and find a good clay idea that is easy for little hands to maneuver.

Keep your clay soft and workable by kneading it regularly. If it starts to dry out, add a small amount of water and knead it in. Use simple tools like toothpicks, plastic knives, or your fingers to shape details, and always work on a clean, flat surface to avoid picking up dust or debris

I followed a YouTube video to draw my cow and after I did the print I reflected back and really wish I tried the white paper and a black paint. Doing designs and lines would be manageable for younger kids but I think people of all ages would enjoy this as a craft and card night at home even!

Tip: When carving your design, always cut away from your hands to stay safe. Use even pressure when rolling ink onto your block to ensure a smooth and consistent layer. Test your print on scrap paper first to check for uneven areas or gaps, and adjust as needed. Clean your tools and block promptly after printing to keep them in good condition for future projects.

This was such a fun assignment and so relaxing. This could be scaled up and down for all ages. I like how we were able to pick our own colour scheme but for students who are overwhelmed by too many options then telling them which colours to use would be very helpful

Tip:Start with a vibrant or textured background using watercolor, acrylic, or blended colors to make your silhouette stand out. Let the background dry completely before painting the silhouette. Use black or dark paint for the silhouette, and apply it with a steady hand or stencil for sharp edges. For extra detail, add subtle highlights or outlines to the silhouette to enhance depth and contrast
