Their function in history was communication, military action, theatrical accompaniment, and religious ceremony to both festival and concert performances. Taiko is a broad range of japanese percution  instruments. In japanese, taiko refers to any kind of drum, but outside Japan, it is used to refer to any of the Japanese drums called wadaiko. They use an instrument called the shamisen and that is a 3 stringed instrument. They also use the shakuhachi and that is a end-blown bamboo-flute. What they do is when you want to learn a new song you will watch someone else do it then repeat it. There is a way that they would do this verbaly and it sounded like "dokonko-don-don". The taiko was once used mainly in the military area. Now it is used for multiple diferent events.
