She wrote this poem because she wanted people to realized that if one person shows another person compassion then it changes everyone else positive mind set. This poem defines community because it shows that when you meet someone that they might have to many friends and things in common with you, you just have to get to know them. The theme was happiness, bringing people together over common grounds. My favorite line in the poem was "Always carry a plant. Always stay rooted to somewhere."

I think that Naomi wrote this letter to remind herself that unity is still not lost. The encounter in the airport was a special one and one to treasure. There is so much discrimination that needs to become abolished. I think that the theme was happiness. The fact that this happened and the lady was open and everybody was happy makes this a happy ending. I feel like rumors and media break the unity sometimes. We all need to become united and come together without problems or war.

I think Naomi wrote this because she helped someone who was afraid and then they became best friends. That's like the moral of the story is that if you help someone in need you don't know what they can give in return. Also the act of kindness and bringing happiness and joy to other people. I think the theme is Kindness
Happiness
and Grief
This poem defines community by everyone being happy at the airport when they handed out the sugar powdered cookies to everyone. All of them were really enjoying themselves and they came to together to have fun.

She wrote this poem as and to express an experience that she had. More over she is writing this experience so that it will hopefully happen more in the world. She wants everybody to be happy and help the people around them. Some themes I see popping up are, we are all the same and helping other people leads to mutual happiness. This poem defines community as a happy, intermingling, and kind. While this is not always the case it is what the poem is saying.

--Rune

Why: Nye most likely wrote this poem because she wanted to communicate her experiences and feelings at the gate with this woman. Because she learned so much from it, she wanted to inspire and share with others the lessons that were taught to her.
Themes: Themes about kindness, such as its contagiousness, and how one helpful act can make a change, no matter how small, pop up in this poem. It seems to just remind us that we should never pass up a chance to do something good, even if it seems unimportant.
Community. The poem defines community as a group of people, however small, that have formed a relationship of nourishment and kindness. Varied ages, cultures, and backstories don't matter; as long as the members support each other.

All you have to do is be friendly with them and you can see a hole other side
Theme: What I see with the theme's is that sadness and lost brought another theme to play in the poem it also brought fear. With happiness there was also a sense of hope that was sparked due to the kind hearted.
Community: The poem kind of defines community as a family. When I first read it I kind of felt that it was like a big family coming together on thanksgiving having a good time.
