Our mission and programs focus on survival services: hot breakfast for women and children, hot lunch for 600-1000 people each day, showers, bathrooms, day shelter, and health services, and they bring up to 1000 hungry and homeless guests to our village each day.

We keep our business expenses low so that the maximum amount of our revenue can be directed toward supporting people experiencing homelessness in the community.

Humanitarian Action Network is also proud to be an environmentally responsible organization. We strive to use only biodegradable food containers, utensils, and bags. We remove all unnecessary packaging from products before distribution to ensure that preventable waste does not end up littering our streets, parks, and rivers. We also offer a battery recycling service for our neighbors experiencing homelessness, so that the batteries given to them do not end up improperly disposed of in the environment.

We also offer sober living for men who are transitioning back into society. Here we have a dedicated team working on your behalf. LSNC is the strong voice that continues to speak out on behalf of our clients living in our communities, even as the state and local “safety nets” for the poor continue to crumble.

Most of the legal aid offices that make up Legal Services of Northern California began as an offshoot of a volunteer program or a special grant project. The oldest program began in Sacramento County in 1956. For a number of years the Sacramento, Auburn, Woodland, Solano, Chico, Redding, Eureka and Ukiah offices were independent organizations created solely to benefit the low-income residents in their particular communities. Today, all these disparate legal aid programs are now integrated as a whole into one organization. Our services are provided to consumers in 23 northern California counties, with our largest office and administrative offices located in Sacramento.

Citizens’ Climate Lobby

What We Believe In

Citizens’ Climate Lobby is a non-profit, nonpartisan, grassroots advocacy organization focused on national policies to address climate change. These core values guide our staff and volunteers along the way:

Focus

We are focused on solving climate change. We move Congress to pass big solutions that will ensure a healthy climate. We also work on complementary solutions that help us work together in our communities and foster a more collaborative environment in Congress.

Optimism

In the face of challenges, we choose optimism — that people are good, that democracy can work, that we can solve climate change, and that we are greater than our flaws. Optimism turns our concern about climate change into action, and it’s catching on — more and more people join us every day.

Diversity

We empower everyone in exercising their personal and political power regardless of race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, age, religion, ability, or political affiliation. We continue to bring awareness of important issues to all our volunteers and foster a sense of belonging to our organization.

Relationships

We take the most generous approach to other people as possible — appreciation, gratitude, and respect. We listen, we work to find common ground, and we endeavor to understand our own biases. We are honest and firm. We know that there is a place for protest, but our approach is to build consensus, which we believe will bring enduring change. That’s why elected officials and their staff, no matter what their politics, say they are happy to see us — and mean it.

Integrity

Our approach is thoughtful and thorough. We are prepared — we consult experts, use data, and solicit feedback before forming opinions or making decisions. We follow up when we are asked. We keep on going even when it’s hard. People know that they can count on us to be consistent and to do what we say we will do.

Being Nonpartisan

Our group is open to anyone who is serious about solving climate change. No matter where you live, what you wear, or who you voted for in the last election, you are welcome. We work with elected officials and community leaders from across the political spectrum because we believe that everyone is a potential ally.

Personal Power

We use our voices to be heard in our democracy. This simple act transforms us from spectators to engaged citizens. We are volunteer-driven — trusting volunteers to make important decisions. Each of us is essential to solving climate change.

Mission

To build tenant power through the organization and participation of all tenants. To fight back against landlords & capitalists who take advantage of renters, to safeguard and expand upon tenants’ rights, and to empower tenants to create the communities we want to live in. Ultimately, to end the oppressive rental system altogether. How we accomplish this:

Organize tenants at the building, neighborhood, and landlord levels, throughout the Sacramento region.

Use our collective power to reject anti-tenant policies and practices including evictions, rent increases, unlivable conditions, and harassment by landlords and property managers.

Defend our right as tenants to organize and negotiate collectively with landlords.

Use peer counseling, tenants’ rights education, and a rapid response network to fight back against landlords who violate the law.

Advocate for universal access to safe, stable housing.

Develop and educate our members to better understand the nature of tenant oppression.

Work closely with our unhoused neighbors, who are most impacted by oppressive rental conditions to the point of losing housing.

Organize in ways that acknowledge the white supremacist, settler-colonial context of housing in the US and center, empower, and support BIPOC tenants in undoing racist housing practices, including police harassment.

Organize in ways that acknowledge the negative effects of ableism, sexism, transphobia and homophobia, and how these may be expressed through the housing system.
