Dear Emily, Eily, Hisa, Annie, and Kelly, thank you for all your care and support for our students. If there's any way a teaching team can exemplify the very thing they are teaching - empowering human relationships - you found it and you did it! In the best sense of the story - and you know the story - you all are the "crossing guards" of our class! You created community in the brief 7 weeks we had with the students and helped the course live up to its own name. Thank you so much, Junlei

We can't even imagine. Thank you for your steadiness and perseverance through this massive course. This is not an easy course to teach - the size of it, the requirements, and the very very diverse range of students (167) who come from every corner of the human development/education world, whose needs are not easily met in any one single course. You managed to offer support and connection for so many of them. You created a welcoming space for all of our students, no matter where they came from, where they are headed, and how closely or distantly their interests matched with yours. You did what we couldn't go - and your work inspires us to keep working on designing a better course! With much gratitude, Junlei & Stephanie

Sam and Catherine: No fancy videos (I need you to do those!); just sincere thanks for your outstanding work in A770. The students benefited greatly from your advising and your feedback on papers. The course benefited hugely from your ideas about how to make it more engaging and creative. And I benefited most of all from the opportunity to work with you, both of you so smart, so talented, and so caring. You are impressive leaders and exemplary people. --🙏 ❤Judy

You were both such a positive presence in S510F/H and made hugely insightful contributions week after week. You consistently encouraged and reassured students while at the same pushing them to do their best work, which sometimes included grappling with difficult or uncomfortable questions. You always had great ideas for how to move our collective learning forward and you amply demonstrated your ongoing commitment to students and to the HGSE community as a whole, not to mention to the field of education and to the general bettering of human society. I have learned so much from both of you and thank you from the bottom of my heart for your many contributions.
Liz

There is nothing easy about the journey that is T543 and certainly nothing easy about TF-ing it. That said, you expertly helped the students to drill down and find the geode gems of wisdom resulting from their efforts. I am so appreciative for the central roles that you play in this course, for all that you do to cheer students through the tough spots (a special talent of yours, Janzen!), to help them enjoy the journey and take it in stride (something you particularly helped them with, Ben), and to share the wisdom of a longer perspective with the students and teaching team (one of many things you shared, Megan)! So, while active processing and effortful, hard work are essential to deep learning such that there are no gifts in education, I certainly feel as though I received a huge gift in being able to work with the three of you. I am deeply, deeply grateful!

With love and gratitude,

Tina

I looked so forward to class, sitting together in a circle, talking about research design, interview guides, ethical dilemmas, building relationships with participants, teachers' work on systemic inequities in Boston schools. So clear to me was how each member of our class appreciated learning from each other, both from experiences we have each had and were having together, as we immersed ourselves in a collective research project with a partner organization. Always a leap of faith, and a ton of work!, and I am so grateful to have taken this leap together with you both.

With love,
Sarah

To the HPL Teaching Team

Dear amazing colleagues on Team HPL,
Every time I talk about HPL, one of the first things I share is how remarkable the work is that you do in building each cohort's learning community. You are truly the "Welcome to HGSE" squad, creating a context for nervous and brilliant learners from around the world to begin to experience what it is like to be a student at HGSE -- in a setting you create that is warm, humanizing, engaging, and powerful. HPL, when it is at its best, is you. So many HGSE students tell me how much they adore learning with and from you and how you created the conditions for a confident start to their program. You also guide students through an experience of writing that is meant to empower them and show them that "they got this" as they start graduate school. I know I speak for all of the faculty and TLL team involved with HPL when I say that your energy and caring is the secret sauce. I am deeply grateful for you, and I look forward to working with many of you in the summer ahead, where my confidence that we can do right by our students is entirely grounded in knowing the difference you make. With gratitude and celebration, Matt

Thank you for your love, spirit, and hard work and for having my back in those moments when questions of power, race, and other arose while we got ready for class. ;) I loved getting to know you better and talking every Wednesday afternoon. I am not going to miss our classroom, but I am going to miss our time together and our weekly chats, and your kind, dedicated and right on time way of supporting the course, me and the community. I hope this was just the first of many adventures to come!
