As said by him, the learner is given a new input that is a step "harder" from what he/she already knows. He/she would be able to understand and learn this new language.

They are: motivation, self-confidence and anxiety. Having a high motivation and self-confidence and low anxiety, leads to a better  assembled person with more success in learning a second language. Oposed to that, if a learner has low motivation and self confidence and high anxiety, the person can assemble a "mental block" (as said by him) that prevents him/her from acquiring a new language.
