Krashen's describes the comprehensible input as a way a learner learns new languages. As said by him, the learner is given a new input that is a step "harder" from what he/she already knows. He/she would be able to understand and learn this new language.

"The best methods are therefore those that supply 'comprehensible input' in low anxiety situations, containing messages that students really want to hear. These methods do not force early production in the second language, but allow students to produce when they are 'ready', recognizing that improvement comes from supplying communicative and comprehensible input, and not from forcing and correcting production." Stephen Krashen

He explains that there ar three variables that facilitates the comprehension of a second language. They are: motivation, self-confidence and anxiety. Having a high motivation and self-confidence and low anxiety, leads to a better assembled person with more success in learning a second language. Oposed to that, if a learner has low motivation and self confidence and high anxiety, the person can assemble a "mental block" (as said by him) that prevents him/her from acquiring a new language.

"Acquisition requires meaningful interaction in the target language - natural communication - in which speakers are concerned not with the form of their utterances but with the messages they are conveying and understanding."Stephen Krashen
