(Revised部分已改為粗體)

In our group discussion, I learned about the problems and solutions in translation.

The first problem we found was the time order. In English, time often comes later in the sentence, “in multiple states on Tuesday nights.” But in Chinese, times usually comes first, “週二晚間……”. So, we moved the time to the front when translating into Chinese to make it sound more native-like.

Another issue was that AI sometimes skipped less important parts, like it skipped “badly”. But even small parts can affect the meaning. So, we read the original text again and added the missing parts ourselves. This is the part that I learned we need to double-check everything, even though everyone said AI is already enough.

We also noticed that some translations lacked linking words or had poor connections between sentences. This made the meaning unclear. To fix this, we added conjunctions or changed punctuation to better connect the ideas that the original text wants to present. By adding conjunctions in the text, it made the text more native-like. In Chinese, we have certain sequences when it comes to talking an event. This also makes me rethink the whole form of Chinese.

Some group members and I also had trouble with very long sentences. Sometimes the AI did not split the sentences well. We solved this by breaking long sentences into shorter ones or combining them properly after reading carefully. This circles back to the first paragraph, we need to double-check everything.

This discussion helped me understand translation better. I learned how to fix common problems and how important it is to make the translation clear and smooth in the target language. Working with others also gave me new ideas and ways to improve my translation. Such as, some of the regroup members think it is not necessary to put conjunctions to link the events together, or they could understand long sentences. It makes me realize that everyone has their own style when translating, but when we have a common goal, we could still find some common things we agree on.
