         <title>How solar energy works?</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<ol><li> Sunlight contains tiny particles of energy called photons.</li><li>When the sun's rays hit a solar panel, material inside the panel- usually silicon-absorbs the photons.</li><li>The photons excite the electrons inside thesilicon's atoms untill they begin to dart around and break away, forming an electrical current.</li><li>Copper wiring inside the panel serves as a highway for the current.</li><li>This direct current [DC] travels out of the panel through a control device called an inverter, which changes it to the alternating current [AC] we use.</li><li>The electricity then passes from breaker boxes to outlets throughout the building.</li><li>Electrical items such as computers and lights can then run on this pollution-free solar energy.</li><li>Whatever isn't used goes back into the electrical grid so it can be used by someone else.</li></ol>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The sun rays heat the air inside the box. The heat in the air is transferred to the pipes then the heat in the pipes is transferred to the water. As cool water is pumped into the inlet pipe the warm water is forced out of the outlet pipe. We can now use this warm water for something like a bath or shower.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>From past learning experiences, I believe students can have a better understanding of the concept if the project involves hands-on. By the end of the lesson, students will be able to describe what a solar cell looks like and that when sunlight hits the solar cell, electricity is generated. Before starting the unit students will form a hypothesis then they will write it down in their science notebook.<br>The preparation will consist of students preparing a cardboard box that will look like a house.&nbsp; They will follow 9 simple steps to create their solar house. After creating the house, I will show the students the solar cell and explain that it turns sunlight into electricity. Then the solar house will be placed in a bright light and allow the students to observe the fan turning and the light shining inside. Once the project has been completed, we will have a class discussion on how other electrical items that electricity from the solar cell might operate—at home or at school. Finally, students will write about the solar house in their science notebooks.<br><br><br>Standards: Science. (n.d.).
