The text in this website basically just explained the Scopes Trial and everything that happened. This Scopes Trial takes place in Dayton, Tennessee, in the summer of 1925. John Scopes, a teacher at a local high school was put on trial for teaching the theory of evolution to his biology classes. During that time period, the teaching of evolution was illegal in Tennessee. William Jennings Bryan, a Democratic candidate for President led a campaign to banish Darwin's theory of evolution from American classrooms. Scopes argued that you cannot teach biology without teaching the theory of evolution. They went to trial over these beliefs. The trial ended with Scopes being fined $100, they reversed that decision a year later. The trial did little to end the debate over the teaching of evolution, but it was a major setback for the anti-evolution movement.

This website explains the Scopes Trial and how it began. This trial started in July and was also know as the Monkey trial. It all started with a science teacher that tried starting to teach about evolution. Many people were not happy with this because it wasn't going off the creation of humans from the bible. The trial ended in 1927, the Tennessee Supreme Court over turned the verdict and left the results unresolved until 1968 when a similar trail was overturned in Arkansas violated the first amendment.

The Scopes trial also known as the "Monkey trial"did not settle the contentious issue of evolution in schools, which continues to cause many strong passions and court actions to this day. The trial went on for many years and dint have an answer to it for most of them. The trial was challenging a new law that was passed in Tennessee saying it was not allowed to teach evolution that would calling the vibes way of seeing things. The attorney William Jennings Bryan took this trial because he was a christian and believed the bible should be interrupted literally .This trial was big news going around causing many reporters to be there and to be put all over newspapers.

The Scopes Trial is a trial that took place in Dayton, Tennessee during the summer of 1925. The Scopes Trial is over a local high school teacher, John Scopes, teaching the theory of evolution to his biology classes. At this time, the teaching of evolution was illegal in Tennessee. It was illegal because of the Butler Act, which made it unlawful to teach human evolution to any state-funded school. There were two sides, Scopes and the states. Scopes side was arguing that not being able to teach evolution was against the first amendment, the states side was that he was violating the Butler Act and that evolution wasn't real. William Jennings Bryan, a Democratic candidate for President was against the teaching of evolution and supported the Butler Act. Bryan was for the prosecution in the case. In response to all of this happening, the American Civil Liberties Union financed a test case for John Scopes. Clarence Darrow was a leading member of the ACLU, as well as a lawyer, so he represented the defense. The trial lasted from July 10, 1925 to July 21, 1925. Scopes was found guilty and fined $100. A year later the verdict was overturned on a technicality. The trial was followed on radios throughout the country.

The Scopes trial had big impact on America. It had a lasting effect on education and religion being used in school. The Scopes trial was around the time of when "separation of church and state" came around which caused him to get in trouble. Since not everyone believed in the same thing it shouldn't have been able to be taught in school. This has effected how teachers now teach because there is still a separation of church and state. This trial had a big influence around the world for a long time. Many people were interested in what was going on. The court room was filled with various cameras and recording equipment. People would flock to the court house just to witness what was going on and figure out what was going to happen to Scopes trial. With the trial now and days there is a clear understanding that evolution should not be taught in public schools. They do this because not everyone believes in the same things. This shows just how much an effect this trial actually had on people and this country.

This article relates to the Scopes Trial because it is talking about not saying the Pledge of Allegiance in school because of the "under God" part of the speech, some argue that it doesn't matter, some argue that it isn't needed because we do not need to be a country united under God, some argue that it should be in there. This relates to certain people not wanting evolution taught because it is not in the Bible, which was the main part of the persecutions reasoning behind the Scopes Trial.

The primary source comes from a witness of Scopes teaching evolution. He said he went in the day before his arrest and told Scopes that he was going against the law and that he could get into major trouble. Scopes then replied saying that the law was unconstitutional anyway and that he was just teaching the science of how humans came about. One of Scopes students at the time testified telling them what he was taught about evolution in the class. He said that Scopes explained how it was too hot in the begin of time for him as to survive causing them to be conflicted. This source shows a different and interesting point of view that shows what the students thought about the situation. It shows a different side then people just being angry that it was going against the bible. Having the different views helps people get a better understanding of what was fulling going on in the class room and in the court room.

This source shows the background information of Darwin's theory, which is what Scopes was teaching his class. Darwin's theory challenged the biblical way and it made people very angry. When Scopes decided to teach it to his class this caused many problems and people getting angry. Thats when the Scopes got in to trouble and was put on trial. This document really shows more about Darwin's theory and the reasoning behind why Scopes decided to teach it. He says he was just trying to teach science with other theories for people to believe in. This source shows more of a background knowledge of how the trial came about and how Darwin's theory really works.

It shows that the judge of the trial actually made a couple of errors will in this trial. It shows a perspective of someone watching the trial and what was going on. This document explains the real reasonings that Scopes was being charged for. They were changed many time but finally it is shown that it was because he was not teaching evolution the way they believed which is from the bible.
