She decided to explore it for herself. Bottoms found that the town was rich in history, but poor financially. It was said that they have a prison, but no grocery store. It's clear that this town was separated from others due to racism. This photo in particular captures a mother, who works as a stripper to support her son. Bottoms captures the feelings of inadequacy of raising a child alone. She photographed graffiti on trains and kids in low income neighborhoods playing. Cooper was lucky enough to capture Keith Haring working on a mural high above the city streets. I personally love this picture because Haring is one of my favorite artists and it's beautiful that Cooper was able to capture this moment in time only about 10 years before he passed. This picture depicts how focused he is on creating his vision, likely how he was with all of his artwork.
