Napoleon founded the Second French Empire. He engaged in the Crimean War and the war for Italian unification. Napoleon fell into exile and died in England in 1873.

The French promoted the rights of Roman Catholics, while Russia Promoted the Eastern Orthodox Church. This war lasted 10 weeks. The result of this war was the 1898 Treaty of Paris. Negotiated on terms favorable to the U.S which allowed temporary control of Cuba, Puerto Rico , and Guam.
