A moral is a lesson that usually teaches right from wrong.

Teacher begins by reading a fable out loud and modeling how to determine the moral. The teacher then models how to retell the fable in order chronologically using chart paper.
She then tells students what the moral is and why it is important.     

2.  She then repeats this process with a different fable prompting students to retell the fable in order, listing their ideas on chart paper.
She asks students what they think the moral is and why it is important.

3.  Then she shares the rubric for the end of the unit and explains what they will be expected to know and be able to do.

 4.  Students are placed in small groups where
 they read fables and retell them by taking turns sharing what happened from beginning to end. Students are expected to listen to each other and build on others' ideas.
They also discuss what the moral is and why it is important.
This process is repeated several times.

5.  Students then meet with the whole group to share their responses.
6.  Students complete a pre-assessment using a checklist.
7. Students complete an end of unit summative assessment using a graphic organizer.
