This is an important quote for the first 100 pages because it expands upon the conflict Pequena is having within herself due to the baby she had with Rey. Not only does this post help emphasize that inner struggle of accepting the baby, but it starts representing a shift in the way Pequena views the baby. While she was initially portrayed as heartless for not wanting the baby, this quote helps change that into something more positive. It shows that she cares enough about the baby to not have it in herself to leave it with Rey- knowing he isn't an adequate father. In addition, this complicates the situation for Pequena because while she clearly doesn't want to abandon her baby and leave it with Rey, she also knows she must leave the barrio to escape from him.

I think you know which one will work out better for you, right?" 
This quote helps bring up an important reason as to what will soon enough be the motivation for why Chico and Pulga leave the barrio. They both are recruited by Rey to work for him and do his dirty work. Nestor "hands Chico a backpack and shoves an address in [Pulga's] hand" (page. 96) and in that moment they both realize they are becoming puppets for Rey to use. They also realize how crucial it is for them to comply or Rey will make their life extremely difficult. Pulga and Chico know that they are endangering their life the longer they get involved with the drug dealing affairs of Rey, and know they have no other option but to run away from the barrio and escape Rey. This ultimately is what Pulga and Chico are determined to do in order to have a chance at living.

In this quote after they finally were able to catch onto the train they celebrate together with the people on there also super happy that they made it but pequena says something that catches us, the fact that they haven't felt this type of happiness in awhile that they feel as if they were liberated while facing this danger still.
