Ana Marielle Limson is currently a freshman student in De La Salle University Dasmarinas taking up Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSA). She is also a Marketing Deputy under the College of Business Administration in the Accountancy council. Before being a freshman in DLSU Dasmarinas she studied in FEU Alabang and was the President of the Junior’s Entrepreneur Society (JES) and a Secretary of the Student Council.

Can you please describe the organization?

The organization she was with was called Junior's Entrepreneur Society or JES. It is an organization that focuses on honing the entrepreneurial skills of the ABM community in FEU Alabang.

What was your position in the organization? What are the roles/duties that you have to fulfill in this leadership position?

She was the President of ‘Junior Entrepreneurs’ Society’. Her main responsibility as the President was to foresee all of the operations and to be able to put the plans and platforms that they promised the community into action.

What are the most difficult challenges you’ve had to face as a leader?

The most difficult challenge that she has encountered as a leader was balancing both academic responsibilities and organization responsibilities. Most of her responsibilities clash each other so she tends to sacrifice her free time to just fulfill these duties.

How would you describe your leadership style?

She described her leadership style as a mix between an affiliative and democratic type of leader. She likes to bring out the best in her fellow officers by allowing them to speak and share their ideas, and she also added that she dislikes dictating and creating ideas on her own because she sees an organization as a team.

How did you learn to be a good leader?

She believes she learned from her fellow officers and the experiences from joining the student council during her 11th grade in high school. Additionally being exposed to various organizations made her adapt and learn how to act and move as a leader.

Who inspired you to be a good leader?

Her eleventh-grade ABM Professor, who was also the ABM Head Department at the time, was the person who inspired her. According to her, her professor was their first mentor and guide in the junior entrepreneur society. She stated that it was her first time being thoroughly guided, and she was amazed by how her professor handled the ABM Faculty. She told herself that she hoped to build a great harmonious organization in the same way that her professor manages her team.

What values are most important to you as a leader?

The values she put importance to is passion, commitment, and accountability. She believes that these are the key to become a good leader because without this your work will be done in a mediocre or less than the bare minimum and that as a leader you must be held accountable for all your actions.

How do you handle disagreements on your team?

She likes to listen to the opinions of every side of the disagreement and meet them halfway because knowing how to compromise in a team is important for her so that no ideas will be neglected.

Can you discuss a leadership challenge you faced and what you did to overcome it?

One memorable leadership challenge for her was when JES were tasked to create an event that involves collaboration from their sister school. What made it difficult was that it was quite difficult to have proper discussion because they don't personally know each other and had never experienced collaborating with organizations outside their school. They needed to compromise for each other's ideas, although it wasn't a smooth sailing experience they were still able to create a good event.

What are you doing to ensure you continue to grow and develop as a leader?

She always keeps her ears open for constructive criticism because, as she has says, she is only human and makes mistakes, so whenever someone points out a flaw, she always thanks them and tries to assess herself on the better things that she could do.

What advice or tips would you give someone going into a leadership position for the first time?

A leadership advice that she would give is that, never be afraid of taking risks. It wasn’t part of her plan to be engaged in a leadership community but look where she is now. Taking risks help you grow not just as a leader but also as a better person. So don’t be afraid if you don’t know anything yet because you will eventually learn along the way.

Watch our video recording here

Similarities and differences of the answers of the two leaders.

Baptiste and Marielle are quite different from each other, Baptiste is a engineer from a big company that handles technicians and engineers while Marielle on the other hand is a student leader, a president specifically that handles one university organization that leans on the activities for the business students. The similarities are also quite evident from the interview, both mentioned and emphasized the importance of good communication in a work environment, an example of this is when Baptiste talked about not using too much technical terms to other workers for they might get confused and not understand his advice and instruction. That instance was similar with Marielle’s past event that lead to her officers to not understand their roles for their upcoming event so, they were in a panic and not listening to Marielle and that’s when she decided it was time to have a talk with the members so she can hear their problems and work through it together as a whole organization.

Both leaders have an inspiring and well thought advice for those who are just starting with being a leader, Baptiste said that everything is essential when you become a e engineer, you have to be holistically aware of your behavior, surroundings especially of your language in the organization. Meanwhile, Marielle’s suggestion is to not be afraid of taking risks, because she believes and a witness of that you will soon learn and be a better leader along the way.
