What did you observe in the virtual classroom tours that resonates with your own classroom or beliefs as a math instructor?
2. Thinking about the virtual classroom tours as a whole, what are some ways we can set up our classrooms to facilitate IBL?
4.
I miss my document camera. I keep seeing them as focus points in all the other classrooms and it is amazing I have managed to work at all this year.

I wonder if moving my kids around is as helpful as I think it is. Since my desks can roll and transform easily it lets me keep the groups fluid but it also generates a lot of resistance and defiance that I have to deal with. This makes me less likely to want to do group work.

Facilitating IBL means allowing the focus to freely switch from the front of the class to the group setting. Pulling students into and out of interacting with the project is essential for keeping the explorations moving.

I can really take back the idea of a particular area for materials. Right now the students have to root around in my lectern.

1) I love having them work in groups and I was excited to see all the ways that we have grouped our students in different size classrooms with different desk styles.
2) I loved the supplies list magnets. I also want to experiment with rearranging my groups differently to see how it affects collaboration.
3) It seems like we all agree on groups and some of us use labels (above or on the desks) to facilitate talking between students.
4) I'm going to make the supplies magnets to hang next to the schedule for each day. I also want to change my desk labels to hanging signs above the groups instead of on the desks because it's a pain grouping them correctly if I've had to rearrange desks for something else like testing.

1. We all had the students in pairs or groups of 3 or 4. Collaboration in math is really important. Having a peer explain something is often better than having the teacher explain it again.
2. I like having the supplies at their desk. It minimizes the time spent switching activities.
3. Groups are a must. They have to be able to talk to each other.
4. Posting student goals. Numbering the groups and changing up the groups every few weeks.

1) I really like that people are grouping their students and that many are using groups of 3. Great collaborative opportunities!
2) Several teacher mentioned that students move the desks and return them during class rather than trying to arrange the room themselves.
3) To facilitate IBL, the grouping arrangements are great. Also, the document cameras allow students to show work quickly without reworking on the board/smartboard.
4) Some folks have some great organizational ideas that save distribution/pickup of paperwork.

1. Many classrooms seem to have their desks in groups. I do this often, but find that sometimes it is very hard to keep them on topic - especially those who are not overly interested in the material anyways.
2. I liked the supply magnets on the front board to let the kids know what they would need for the day.
3. Obviously groups help to facilitate group work and collaboration.
