School-Based Assessment:
Year 11: 3 Internal exams, One may be a formal written examination, one multimodal
Year 12: Maximum of four tasks, only one formal written exam, one multimodal, assessment of the common module must integrate student selected related material

Compulsory or Common Modules:
Year 11: Reading to Writing
- intensive close reading of texts
- unpack and analyse complex ideas
- reflect on knowledge and skills as a writer
- develop insights into the world around them
- imaginative recreation can help deepen student engagement

Year 12: Texts and Human Experience 
- students form 'understanding of how texts represent individual and collective human experiences'
- students can discuss paradoxes, inconsistencies in human behaviour
- students to draw from personal experience and make connections between themselves, the world and the texts

Students must study a range of types of texts drawn from prose fiction, drama,

poetry, nonfiction, film, media, and digital texts.

each of the following categories:

● Shakespearean drama

● Prose fiction

● Poetry

 OR

 - Drama

The remaining text may be film, media or

 nonfiction text or may be selected from

one of the categories above.
Students must study ONE related text in the Common Module: Texts and Human Experiences

●       complete 60 indicative hours

●       undertake study of the common module

●       undertake the related independent research project.

Year 12 English Extension:

Common Module: Literary Worlds with ONE Elective Options (60 hours)

For the English Extension 1 Year 12 course students are required to:

●       complete the Year 11 English Extension course as a prerequisite

●       complete 60 indicative hours

●       undertake study of ONE elective option from the common module.

Year 12 (120 hrs):
Mod A: Texts and Human Experiences (30 hrs)

Mod B: Language, Identity and Culture (30 hrs)

Mod C: Close Study of Text (30 hrs)
Focus on Writing (studied concurrently with the above modules) (30 hrs)

- Students are required to closely study three types of prescribed texts, one drawn from each of the following categories:

- The selections of texts for the Focus on Writing module do not contribute to the required pattern of prescribed texts for the course.
- Students must study ONE related text in Module A: Texts and Human Experiences.

Three assessment tasks

The minimum weighting for an individual task is 20%

The maximum weighting for an individual task is 40%

Only one task may be a formal written examination

One task must be a multimodal presentation enabling students to demonstrate their knowledge, understanding and skills across a range of modes.

Year 12 - The Year 12 formal school-based assessment program is to reflect the following requirements:

A maximum of four assessment tasks

The minimum weighting for an individual task is 10%

The maximum weighting for an individual task is 40%

Only one task may be a formal written examination with a maximum weighting of 30%

Module C

 - The Craft of Writing must be assessed with a total weighting of 25%

One task must be a multimodal presentation enabling students to demonstrate their knowledge, understanding and skills across a range of modes

Assessment of the Common Module must integrate student-selected related material.
