In order for you to critically review the article in a body paragraph,
1. Pick out a salient point in the article, and describe it.
2. Do you agree or disagree with it, and why? You may also evaluate the idea using the questions on page 19, under Reflection.

When I saw that the writer had written that online activism is lazy or performative, i was having mixed feelings towards this comment.Have we ever wondered when we donate money online to a certain organisation, have we ever seen the money reach to the certain group of people some may have, but there are also some who only talks without doing anything. The money would be given to the person who organised the stream, not to the charitable organisation.Although there are some people like that, there are also some who are the total opposite, like mrbeast.Mr beast is a youtuber who helps the local community in the us, in an interview, he shared that he have given all the money he have earned back to the local community and has a youtube channel, Beast philanthopy, where he does charitable such as donating food and donating laptops to high school students or maybe buy a new house for a homeless person.

The writer wrote it in the a way that makes people think he is on the side of the criticism about social media activism, but when it comes to the last paragraph, he says that he supports social media activism and us users should continue to tweet about supporting movements. Which made me confused which side he is actually on. The writer seems very determined when talking about the negatives of social media that it made the readers think that he was criticizing social media activism. He only mentioned he supported social media activism at the end.

After reading the article, i felt that the article was mainly on why people think and feel that social media is referred to 'slacktivism' more than how social media is not referred to 'slacktivism' The writer only wrote 2 paragraphs of why social media activism should not be referred to 'slacktivism' while paragraphs 3 to 6 was all on why people regard social media activism as 'slacktivism'. I feel that the author should also give his own opinions on why social media is not 'slacktivism'. Above all, i feel that the writer should have gave more example on why social media activism is not referred to 'slacktivism' than how people feel why social media is refered to 'slacktivism'.

I was surprised when the article talked about how social media and how it allowed people to spread trends, sign petitions and join virtual organisations. Although it seems useful, but there are a lot of disadvantages as well. Like how social media activism is seen as lazy or preformative and I totally agree. Lets take the Black Lives Matter movement as an example, during the peak period of the movement, social media was filled with posts about the rallies and victims of racism. But compared to now where Black people are still not granted rights, where racist occurences still happen to Black people, less people are spreading news about it. Another example can be " Save Ralph", an animation that aims to spread awareness about animal testing. The animation was everywhere on Tik Tok, influencers even shared which companies of makeup brands that uses animals to test their products. As time goes by, its very rare to see a post about animal testing anymore, as if it was just a trend... or maybe it is.

What i had hoped to see in the social media 'Slacktivism' article was for the writer to make the article sound more interesting. I found the article rather bland and plain. It did not give me that huge of an impression over social media as it was quite boring. Social media activism was also mentioned in the text and the and information of trends going viral. However, i felt that all the information given were too long-winded and i would have preferred the writer to get straight to the point instead of beating around the bush. There were many examples given and they were all very detailed, which allows the reader to know what exactly the article is talking about. There were complex vocabulary used which also made me less interested to continue reading as it was rather tedious to guess the meaning of these words. the complex use of words were confusing but the article itself was still okay.

I was aghast when i read this particular sentence about the article on the fleeting nature of internet fame. Social media have certainly made an significant impact on our lives differing one's social status based off their social media profiles. As times have changed, so as the social media dynamic of fame. Fame, this specific theory, have created a sort of stigma on those whom frequent the internet as imaginary boundaries and expectations everyone seems to understand, affect how we act online on a daily basis. If you were to be famous online, your privacy will immediately be diminished by the public because celebrities appear as "god-like" whom people follow closely as a form of support in what they do. This is why i completely agree with the article on the fleeing nature of internet fame based off of the writer's opinions and their authority on the topic.

What i had hoped to read in the social media 'slacktivism' article was both its positive and negative impact on online activism.I was disappointed when the article had only mentioned the negative impacts of online activism, this made the article feel one sided. They had never once mentioned about how online activism has helped many be able to support movements they truly cared about. Many people are not be able to contribute physically like attending protest or confronting the opposition in person but through online activism, many people of all ages around the world are able to support what they believe. For example, some celebrities were able to support by spreading information through videos on their social media platform and urging others to help by donating .Even if their fans were not able to donate, just spreading the word by sharing the video to friends and family can help bring awareness to this movement. This allows more people to be aware about the movement and initiate them to help out. However,i do agree to some terms that online activism can be corrosive especially when people get the wrong information or are using it just for personal gain but this doesn't mean online activism should be classified as 'slacktivism' as a whole.

When I saw that social media activism was described as a form of 'slacktivism', in my mind I did acknowledge that fact as social media activism requires lesser physical movement than the original activism and many people get criticised for it. For instance, celebrities and other people who joined and supported the #BlackoutTuesday trend get criticisms as they get suspected of doing it for their own personal gains and not making enough effort to advance the movement. Indeed social media activism is a lazy way to advocate, however, the word can spread even more quickly than the 'old-fashioned' activism. One example is #BlackoutTuesday which was mentioned in the text, where its trend managed to spread across the world through social media. Therefore, I also that think social media activism is not always ineffective.

The writer portrayed social media activism as lazy and performative, implying that she also doesnt approve of this form of activism. However, the last sentence of the last paragraph says that we should continue with social media activism and support online movements. In this text, the writer cannot decide which side she is on, weather to support social media activism or not. The writer has spoke about how social media activism is inferior to real life activism in a large portion of the text, but suddenly wants to switch sides to supporting online activism at the last sentence, and even though 'the new revolution is digital' according to the writer on using social media for these types of online movements, it would also help if the traditional way of confronting the opposition was also used as using social media.

When I saw the words ''Slacktivism'' in the title of the article, I had initially thought that it would be an argument that speaks against the way society has a pessimistic view of social media. However, although the article was being written in a way that does not show any bias, ultimately it can be seen which side the writer is on based on your perspective of the text.
This article is written to explain the state of social media activism and how it had changed the way people push for a cause and how efficient it has been for the last few years. The writer spoke for both sides of the spectrum, speaking for how social media is both good and bad for society. She used phrases such as ''insurmountable monolith'' to describe how she felt toward the topic.
In my opinion, it would have been better if there were more statistics and evidence to back up the author's claim as the writer did offer many personal opinions however, lacking evidence. The only notable evidence she provided was for the controversy surrounding BLM. The writer also criticised and supported social media activism at the start and the end of the article. Thus, this makes it hard to convince an audience whether social media activism is good or bad for society.
In conclusion, people who want to take part in social media activism should be aware of the pros and cons of the movement with some of the examples stated by the writer so they can realise that these movement socials can be a double edged sword. (PN: didnt have the ws nor the article so have to anyhow wing it)

An example would be when the writer stated that promoting the rise of various social justice currents amongst social media users was considered normal and rather unsuccessful. However, in real life on social media, such efforts such as signing petitions or sharing posts has really affected social media in a more positive rather than a more negative way. Issues like the Black Lives Matter, through such ways could then be brought to light, which proves social media activism as beneficial. Yet, the writer chose to say that the Black Lives Matter movement was synonymous with the actual causes they represent. I was also dismayed to see that the writer did not back up most of their statements with proper and sufficient evidence. Above all, I thought that it was bad that the article could not provide ways on how social media "slacktivism" could be countered.

I do not know much about things related to social media before but through this article, i found out that social media has a lot of cons. Such as slacktivism, people are criticised for being lazy and being less than the the real thing by using social media and not doing things in the physical way. It can be seen through #BlackoutTuesday where participants were criticised for not doing much and celebrities being accused for using it for their own personal gain. Im also disappointed as almost half the article was filled up with cons, it makes social media seem like a bad thing but the truth is, there are definitely good sides to it as well, such as being able to bring awareness to something that can help to change the world to a better place (#Blacklivesmatter). It helps to improve the environment to the better so that everyone will be able to live a more happier and positive life.

The writer says that in the end credits the interviewees give solution to tackle the problem, of social media. The writers states that it is a half hearted response, not serious and unrealistic. I disagree with the writers point. Yes sure no one will listen to the advice of the interviewees but the main point of the show/movie isn't this. That's why it was shown during the end credits. But even though I didn't watch the show/movie I think people will use less social media not because of the end credits. But because the movie itself. The main message of the movie is that the Big Tech use in an attempt to manipulate and influence, and I think that this will lead people to be scared of social media and therefore use it less

After reading the text, I find that the writer was merely stating points for the majority of the texts,I felt that there was very little evidence to support the claims other than a few brief examples and lacked justification that was all wrapped up in one short paragraph. Essentially the writer was just blurting out a bunch of thoughts he/she had and was more of ranting than anything else in my opinion. Even for the examples given , were very brief and given very little context. Although there are some good points , most of them are baseless and lacks "proof" .However I do a agree that social media has played a major role in efforts towards social justice and that many people that use them as their only effort to support the cause are lazy and I feel that they are not "not doing enough" as for many that us the best that they can afford to do and people should just bd grateful for the efforfs I also understand where it comes from... (I'd assume its mostly youngsters that are calling them lazy and lacking effort.) But all together this text just lacks facts and feels abit hollow to me. (If this is not how I was supposed to write this let me know and I will rewrite it.)

What I had hoped to see in the article discussing about 'Slacktivism' was its advantages and benefits of social activism. The article describes social activism as lazy or performative, but it doesn't tell us if it's working or whether or not it has made an impact on people. Look at the paragraph talking about #BlackoutTuesday, it only tells us that both celebrities and normal participants were criticised for either donning the hashtag for personal gain, or not doing enough to advance the act. However, what it doesn't mention to us is that whether it has inspired people to join the movement, or whether cases of police brutality has decreased.

However, I am also disappointed as they do not further elaborate on why social activism was being criticised for being a lesser version of the "real thing" and how it's not effective to promote activism online. For example, #BlackLivesMatter, a hashtag that was set off by the death of George Floyd, was not effective as people could only see black screens when they used that hashtag, which let important information about the movement or what caused this viral trend to happen, to get buried in the flood of black screen. Thus leaving it ineffective.
