Functionalism:
What is functionalism? Functionalism is the theory based on the aspects of society which includes roles, norms and institutions. Functionalism is based on the idea of Emile Durkheim which looks at society from a large scale perspective . The main idea of functionalism include; social order, education, family and collective conscience. In order for functionalism to work in the society it involves unity, everyone in the society must come and work together. Herbert spencer, had compared functionalism to organs that work together in order for the body to function properly.

Discussion
I believe that functionalism is necessary in society because, it helps us to understand who we are and the things we do. In my opinion Functionalism helped in the development of social facts, which is the pattern of behavior which includes Religion, Laws and Moral, in order to have this everyone needed to come together and agree with these religion and morals. For this reason, functionalism had to be discovered and is necessary in Society.

What is culture?

Culture is the way we live, think eat and act. Culture includes what we own, type of house we live in and even the utensils we use to cook. There are many characteristics of culture for example; Culture is transmitted from one generation to the next. Through this characteristic culture is shared and learned, it is shared since the family is growing and new generations are introduced to the practices. Every family has at-least one tradition that has been passed from one generation to another. For example; celebrating Christmas is a tradition, not everyone celebrates this event. A tradition in my family is that every year we have a family vacation and we visit our family members. unfortunately we can’t go on family vacation those days because of the pandemic but this has been something my family has always been doing. Traditions aren’t just what you do but also the we do things; For examples the we cook different dishes of food. The way my family cooks relleno could be different from the way someone else cooks it but that’s what makes your culture and traditions different.

Discussion:

Personally, I have never went into detail or thought about the different things that make up culture. Before learning about culture in class I just thought culture was just the way we dress or what we eat. But I have learnt that there are many things that make up culture itself. Culture is a way we can express ourselves and it makes us unique. This way you can learn from others and others can learn from you as-well. In my opinion tradition helps us to never forget family members who have passed away, in a way by us doing the traditions we make other people happy. There maybe people in your family that aren’t able to do the traditions for many reasons; but by you practicing and done them you make them happy and they realize that those traditions are still and will still be apart of the family.

Status is a social position a person hold. There are three types of status, under status set we have two. Status set is all the positions a person hold, either it is Ascribed or Achieved. Ascribed is a status given to us. For example, a status given to me is daughter of a pastor. On the other hand, Achieved is earned. Examples of this status is a MJC student. We had to graduate from high school before we were able to go to college. The last type of status is Master status is one of the most important status. This status has a great impact on a person’s identity and life. An example of a master status is being a parent.

Discussion:
These status are a great way to identify people. For example if you ask for Belizeans it will be the people living in Belize. Being a Belizean is our status in the country. Status such as the master status makes us proud of who we are and Archived status helps us to realize that we are studying or doing something for us to achieve a goal. Having these statuses encourage us to do better and achieve our goals. Statuses such as Ascribed in my opinion makes us unique, even though we are daughters and sons, but not everyone is the daughter or son of the same person, except if you are siblings. I am the daughter of the pastor of the nazarene church no one except my siblings can say they are the daughters or sons of pastor. To be being siblings it not just Ascribed, but it can be a master status. For example, being the siblings of the Valedictorian or Salutatorian. Even though only one sibling is the valedictorian or salutatorian it is always a great honor to be their siblings and people will refer to use as the sibling of the valedictorian.

Social stratification: (social - functionalism)

Social stratification refers to a ranking of people or group of people within a society. Under social stratification fall social functionalism. Social functionalism is a thesis created by Davis - Moore, its an un equal system that motivates others to work harder. It is based on the different careers people want. If you had to work hard and stress more with your education, then it makes sense for you to win more money than other people who do not. For example, A doctor would spend a lot of time studying and stressing with education why a garbage worker would not. In this case, doctors win more money than garbage works.

Discussion ☁️

This topic was very interesting to learn about, I had never thought about such thesis that makes society the way it is. I have always known that different jobs pay different amount of money. In my opinion I do agree that it is a way of motivating others to work harder, because if every jobs would pay the same salary most people wouldn’t have the job they have now. For example, we see that influencers make a lot of money by making videos and posts. They don’t need to have the highest level of education unlike a judge that needs to have a certain level of education. If both judge and influencers would have the same salary then judges would rather be influencers than the judge because education is not cheap. For this reason, it is important to have social functionalism in society to have the society balanced.

Politics is the social institution that decides on society's goals and power distribution. While, government is the powerful body that decides the society's political life. Every country has a different political/government system. There are four main political systems which are Monarchy, Democracy, Authoritarianism and totalitarianism. Each system has a different way of choosing their government for example, the monarchy system royalty families hold a symbolic head of state. While in the democracy system people choose who they want to represent them as a whole, system gives power to the people.

Discussion:☁️
I believe each county uses a different political system in which they feel is better for their economy and people. For example, Belize uses the democratic system algo with Norway, Norway is known as one of the best democratic system country. While North Korea would use the Totalitarianism system. In my opinion since Belize is a small country it lets the people have their power in electing the government, I believe that is Belize would use totalitarianism people living in Belize would find many way to flee from the country and the country will not have little to no citizens except the government while in North Korea it is a bigger country in which people fleeing from it would interfere as much with the citizen growth.
