         <description><![CDATA[<ol><li><p><strong>Date of Battle:</strong> April 9, 1942 – April 17, 1942</p></li><li><p><strong>Description:</strong> After the U.S. and Filipino forces surrendered to Japan in the Philippines, around 75,000 troops were forced to march over 60 miles in brutal conditions.</p></li><li><p><strong>Outcome:</strong> Japanese victory; many soldiers died from starvation, dehydration, or were executed.</p></li><li><p><strong>Significance:</strong> One of the worst war crimes by the Japanese military. It showed the brutality of the Pacific War and strengthened American resolve.</p></li></ol>]]></description>
