         <description><![CDATA[<P>A burin is a tool used in engraving.&nbsp;&nbsp; In prehistoric times it is thought that people may have used the burin to&nbsp;engrave bone and wood.&nbsp; The burin has a rounded handle and a steel shaft that protrudes from it with a very sharp cutting edge.&nbsp; This tool is primarily used&nbsp;in the <EM>Intaglio </EM>print making technique to create&nbsp;the&nbsp;grooves&nbsp;in&nbsp;the metal plate.</P>]]></description>
