Universal Design for Learning, UDL, is a method of instruction designed to satisfy every learner's needs in a classroom. Universal Design for Learning aims to remove obstacles that will prevent skills and needs of a student. Teachers must create a flexible learning environment where students can study in different ways, material is taught in different ways, and the students have options on how to demonstrate what they have learned.

With the support of UDL, inclusive classroom environments are created so all students can feel comfortable being who they are, ask questions, and allow them to interact with the material. In addition to allowing students to interact with the material in a way that best fits them, giving them a range of ways to perceive, understand, and communicate what they have learned will motivate them to continue interacting.

The benefits of UDL are that it will make learning more accessible, reduces stigma, customizes the lesson for each student, and it builds on the learner's abilities. UDL reduces sigma because UDL will eliminate the idea that some learning styles are more valuable than others or make students feel like they need more attention by allowing a range of learning styles to exist in the same place. UDL adapts the information to the student rather than assuming that the student will adapt to the material.

UDL can give learners different options on how to do an assignment to show that they understand the material. For example, teachers can give their students the opportunity to create a podcast, video, blog, comic strip, etc. instead of students being restricted to pencil and paper. Teachers can use UDL to help them know what goals the students are working on to achieve and give feedback to the student to help them get closer to their goals.

Together, UDL and OER can close a number of educational gaps, including those related to equity and accessibility, by giving students more options for receiving a great education. The aim of UDL and OER is to make sure all students have access to several means of learning, expressing themselves, and demonstrating their comprehension. When UDL and OER both exist in a classroom, students will be able to access more learning materials and other ways to interact with the material while still working towards achieving their personal goals.

UDL and OER are both educational approaches/ resources that are important in the education field. UDL is a great approach teachers can use and follow. UDL will include everyone, despite their race, disability, etc. Teachers will be diverse with every learner and will use OER materials so that every learner is able to access it.

Using UDL will allow me to personalize all of my student's goals and help create a goal sheet for them. As a future educator, one of my goals will be to help all my students achieve their goals. I can do this by providing open educational resources to all of my students. I will also have the opportunity for them to choose the resources they want to use on the material, whether it be videos, podcasts, slides, etc. I will create an open and diverse classroom, especially when it comes to submissions on assignments and resources they have available. I hope that by allowing my students to learn in a variety of methods, they can achieve greater academic success.
