Informatics, as shown by the Foundation of Knowledge Model, relies on data and information gathering for knowledge aquisision, dissemination, generation and processing. RTLS's provide this input in an extremely functional manner. RTLS's work by monitoring "tag" locations an uploading this information into location engine software. At this point the location engine forwards the information on to other integrated systems such as bed board management systems, application program interfaces, and timekeeping systems. Tags may be attached to patients to monitor mobility progress or track transfer locations around the hospital, wheelchairs or vitals machines for easy location, or workers to maximize workflow and productivity. Additionally, the individual tags can be equipped with motion sensors, temperature sensors, push buttons for return communication, and even LCD readouts for information delivery.
