Great job! Just a comment...I think it's great that Yik Yak provides an anonymous opportunity to vent mental health issues, but I really struggle when I see people posting things and I'm not able to make sure that they're safe because of their anonymity!
...
So I've been following Yik Yak for a few days now (editing my previous comment) and I do see the value for university employees to use it as a means of gathering "campus climate" data. That's a point I think you were trying to make that I didn't fully appreciate until now. :)

I actually did not know much about YikYak prior to this activity. It was not commonly used at my undergrad school so I basically didn't know anything. It was comical (the inside jokes) but also disheartening (some of the mean comments I saw).

I went to UMW for undergrad so I've almost exclusively been hearing negative things about Yik Yak for over five years, with a few neutral interactions. One thing that I struggle with is the anonymous nature, it unfortunately has the tendency to allow students to become empowered to say something hurtful, as there are no real consequences. The idea behind Yik Yak isn't horrible, but the outcomes are not worth keeping it an option, in my opinion.

YikYak @Virginia Tech

The YikYak at Virginia Tech is highly active as one would expect with our enrollment numbers. There is absolutely a love/hate relationship with YikYak. Some students use it as an outlet when going through a hard time or just need someone to talk to. With the guideline changes in YikYak's new rebirth, there has been a lot less hate speech and unacceptable behavior all around. I think administration in higher ed can learn a lot from these Yaks students put out about campus and its climate. There a is a lot that can be learned from a students unbiased, truthful, anonymous voice.

I remember when Yik Yak was popular when I was in high school and going in to college. I was surprised it was brought back. After scrolling for a bit I saw a lot of similarities from what it was before but more conversation around mental health.

I can certainly see value in anonymity and a space for students to speak freely. However if left unmonitored, it has the potential to host a toxic space. If it is monitored, a huge portion of the benefits of a platform that encourages individual expression and free speech might become a censorship issue.
