In Canada social workers help people along with their families and communities . With that they also provide resources, offer counseling, along with different kinds of therapy's. While they do provide resources most of the time they end up focusing more on vulnerable children and people with a struggling/difficult home life.

Most social workers spend their time in offices a lot to do things like filling out paperwork and reviewing things that will need to be done. Though they can also go into the field meaning things likes visiting and speaking/assessing clients. In some cases they can actually end up traveling around their province city or town. Along with that their work schedules change from working evenings to working weekends and/or holidays as needed.

To be a social worker in Canada you have to have some sort of blend of professional, interpersonal and emotional skills at a good understanding. Along with that communication skills are needed to keep a good conversation with the people that they are working with along with good written communication. With that social workers also need to know how to connect and work with people of different backgrounds.

Normally to become a social worker it's required to have a four year undergraduate program to get a bachelors degree is social work. With that after you get the bachelors degree you can continue your studies for a year to get a masters degree.

As for training programs you can and should take theoretical courses and practical training in college or university.

where can you get the training and how much would it cost?

You can do your training and gain your degrees for social work at UPEI through the Diversity and Social Justices courses that are offered there. As for the cost it would be about 14,340 dollars per course to take so affordable but is kind of expensive. So you would most definitely have to get student loans for the four years of doing them.

Whenever you reach entry-level your income would be around 39,000 dollars a year or rather 20 dollars per hour. But as you continue to get more experience and reach just the normal salary it would start to get a lot larger then when you started off with being around 60,047 dollars a year.

According to the Government of Canada's estimated prospects are good as for a while there were to many openings for social workers yet not enough of them to fill the spaces. Which is still the case there are still open spaces and with that data collected it helps show that in the future it will continue to be the same.

Where are most job opportunities located? Can you find work inside/outside PEI?

In the last three days a huge amount of social working jobs have opened for the summer for working in childcare centers and camps, such as a student assistant in the UPEI summer camp for students in high-school but also for students in under-grad for childcare or social working. Along with that a job opening in Moncton for 'Horizon Health Network' opened up which is a healthcare organization in New Brunswick that is focused on their patients welfare along with their families and communities.

Why do you feel you are suited to this career (a good match)?

I am personally interested in this career because last year I was in a horrible place for myself and the main person I could go to for help was my guidance counselor Michelle. She was just an amazing person and helped me along with quite a few other people.

So when I get older and graduate I want to focus on helping other kids because without Michelle's help I honestly don't think I would have made it to this year.
