Along with the school systems, segregation has been apparent, but not in the way of a certain white vs colored side for everything, but rather just not including people of color. A good example of this today is the new voting laws put in place in Georgia. The voting places in Georgia are soon to be harder to vote at after seeing a huge increase in black votes in the recent 2020 Presidential election. Because there was more at-home voting options, more people of color voted and allowed for the people to vote democrat instead of republican. Republican law makers in Georgia didn't like that so they are making it harder for some people to vote which is completely unconstitutional and therefore, they are receiving a lot of backlash.

This issue is a huge one today, because as the LGBT community has become more public and out there, more people are demanding change. As of 2020, 37/50 states have completely legalized gay marriage, and of the 13 that haven't, 8 are working their way towards it. For Interracial couples, it wasn't until 1967 when they legalized interracial marriage across the board. Not allowing interracial marriages was deemed unconstitutional so therefore they allowed it. Personally I think that the LGBT community is going down the same road that people of color went through in terms of civil rights, and it's only a matter of time before they realize that LGBT isn't hurting anybody and the restrictions that are put against LGBT people are simply unconstitutional.

One of the big things in recent times that is leading for change is the LGBT and BLM movements. With the killing of George Floyd last year, many people (mainly african americans) protested for black rights and for the idea that black lives matter equally to everyone else in America. Similarly with the LGBT community, they haven't really protested as much, but rather rally and try to gain support. Both of these movements are notorious in America and are both taking action and taking advantage of their platforms in order to receive what they want. It isn't easy for them, but they are willing to make sacrifices to make history and change the future.

With the idea of being open about being part of the LGBT community being a fairly new idea, with that comes a lot of older businesses not adjusting well and therefore not accepting LGBT employees. This issue is fairly new because before, LGBT people would often keep it to themselves and not be open about it because it was so frowned upon in society.

As LGBT rights are developing in the United States, it is unequal for people in the LGBT community; LGBT people of color and women aren't treated equal to even LGBT men. Researchers aren't sure why open LGBT is being discriminated in the workplace, but it is believed because it is so new, that because there isn't any laws agaisnt it, it will continue to happen.

Members of the LGBT community are constantly forming groups to influence politicians to make civil rights laws to include the LGBT community, similar to what black people are doing to gain more freedoms/rights. Unfortunately, since the popularity of being openly LGBT is fairly new, they are a few steps behind black people, but since America has seen inequality in black people for a long time, they know that similar issues are happening with LGBT and know what they have to do to satisfy the LGBT community.
