The one thing I'll always remember about Freny is her amazing (and I mean amazing) ability to cut and serve cake. I have never seen someone serve perfect slices to a whole team (even the first slice was great).

Freny has a huge focus on community and that will be missed by everyone in Careers.

My whole third career started because of you and the Co-op program with Penrith Council. My time in local government is reaching 12 years now. I have had my own student placements and interns over the years too.

Your program has been amazing and wonderful! I also remember the first and second SIFE teams that you put together - my goodness that was funny!

I still have my "Firefighting Award" on my wall at home...

I wish you all the very best and hope the coming years are full of wonderful adventures!

Exactly 20 years ago we first met through my honour’s project scholarship funded by Hawker De Havilland under the CEED Program in LINKWEST in 1996. Time flies!!

The CEED Program definitely helped me in building my business and analytical skills as well as the foundation for my academic career progression. Over the last 2 decades, from an international student to Assistant Vice-Chancellor today, the experience and skills I gained through CEED and the help you provided is definitely unforgettable.

You have lived the 'career' part of your life that has meant so much to so many people, including one Asha Chand who met you some 15 years ago as a casual academic. We have since worked on so many levels, the highlights being: sending journalism students on international internships as well as the 2016 NCP project in Nepal. I have learned so much from your acts of integrity, compassion, empowerment and encouragement. Most importantly, I have learned from you that everyone wants to live at the top of the mountain but how you get there is most important. Thank you for being Freny - frank and honest. I am very sad to know that when I come back from mat leave that you won't be here! It just won't seem real. I know you have wanted this for such a long time but I never thought you would do it hahaha.

Drop the tinman routine and look around at your life’s symphony (this is a reference to a fabulous movie about a reluctant music teacher who unknowingly touches the lives of all of his students-Mr Holland’s Opus…you’ll have time to watch it now! Stop for a moment, breathe it in and enjoy it! From the moment I met you in the doorway at open day and you strong-armed me into applying for an internship, you have had a profound influence on my life. Here I sit ten years later doing a job I love, working with the most amazing people, all because of that moment. Although I must admit I probably applied more out of fear that you would hunt me down than any aspirational idea of what might be. I have watched you grow as a manager and create a strong team culture that values creativity, autonomy and innovation. If there is a quote that encapsulates your time here: “It is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission”. Without you, none of this would be. You have touched the lives of thousands of students, don’t ever underestimate that. I cant really find the words to cover
the time we have spent working together. You have always been so understanding and flexible - I wouldn't have survived any other way. Your drive for our Unit has been overwhelming and I'm sure that has kept us going so many years. I hope that you find lots of enjoyment in your retirement. We need to find things that we didn't have the time for before. I have found a funny photo of you from our NZ trip. You sat on the luggage conveyer belt because it said ' passengers only'. Freny! Where do I begin? I am so lucky to have crossed paths with you earlier in the year as I embarked on a life changing journey as part of the 'India Immersion' experience. Your dedicated hard work, commitment and care for us students on these overseas exchanges is a real testament to your genuine personality and loving nature. The amount of careful preparation, advice and continued support before, during and after our time abroad are not left unnoticed. I remember writing to you as I reflected on my day to day encounters in my hotel room in Colaba, at around midnight, just to let you know about how much I loved everything Indian, from the paneer butter masalas, the people, the absolutely contagious 'head-nod' and the various opportunities that the Indian culture offers in terms of personal growth and development. The next morning, you made the effort to give me a video call all the way from the other side of the world, just to check up on how everyone and everything is going... this brought a massive smile to my face and I will never forget your gentle personality and warm heart in all your dealings. Despite having only known you for a little while, I can see why you are so loved and respected by everybody that is lucky enough to be graced by your presence. Thank you Freny for being like a mother figure for us all. I have broadened my horizons and grown tremendously on the India Immersion experience, becoming culturally more aware and appreciative of life (memories on the trip are going to be stories I tell my grand kids one day!). Dear Freny it has been such a great joy to have worked with you over many years on the internships to India. You have changed the lives of the many students who have gone over the years and experienced what we felt would be something really special. And it has been for them, but also for me, a great pleasure to be part of the process and joy of changing young lives forever.
Personally too it has been such a great delight also to get to know you better over the years. Your dedication to awakening a social consciousness in many middle class Australians has been impressive and I will certainly miss you greatly at the university.
Also your leadership of careers has been impressive and with my human resources and management training hat on I have observed both a great leader and manager in your careers roles. Your shoes will be extremely hard to fill but a new and well deserved life awaits you and I am glad that I will swing by into Glenbrook for a coffee, lunch or a movie or all three

Ahhh, Freny... Such fond memories of my time working in your team! It was my first foray into working in tertiary education, and I was lucky enough to land in your office!
When I think back, everything makes me laugh! From your speeding ticket for driving too slowly (framed and in pride of place in your home), to the kookaburra that came through your office window, to your loitering husband who was accosted by Security when he was strolling around outside the building!
Your hard work is recognised by so many people. You have contributed enormously to my career, and to the careers of many others.
