         <description><![CDATA[<div>Hello, My name is Luke Barcenas, I am 20 years old, and I have lived in Miami Beach for my whole life. I’m looking to get a degree in computer science because I am very interested in technology. The sector of Computer Science that I would like to pursue is Artificial Intelligence because computers learning on their own is fascinating to me. I would love to get a master’s degree in Computer Science, focusing on machine learning or AI. Recently, I began learning about AI and I have discovered that it is extremely hard, using difficult calculus concepts and other mathematical foundations. Even though it is a challenge, I plan to do anything in order to learn what I am passionate about. For my future, I hope to create a piece of technology that will make a significant impact on our world. I think that technology is an extremely large catalyst for change, and I hope to use it to make a positive impact for our future.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Claim, evidence and reasoning is a framework used to answer questions and provide a feasible argument for something. This is important in biology because the CER format can be used when conducting experiments and investigations. Using experimental observations as evidence, you can make a claim and back it up with the information collected from the experiment. In addition to this, you can use reasoning to explain how the evidence connects and proves the claim. Aside from biology, claim, evidence and reasoning can be used the news, with friends, and with family in many ways. Since the CER format is the basis of many discussions and views, you can use it to verify someone's arguments or statements. For example, if someone on the news makes a powerful claim, you can look at it and ask "is there evidence backing this up?" and "how does the evidence connect to the argument that is being made?"</div>]]></description>

It is a small mammal that is covered in scales made of keratin, the material that human nails are made of. The Sunda pangolin has become an endangered species due to mass hunting and poaching for its meat and scales.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The video that I chose was the video titled <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qi0edf_nJDo"><strong>"When is the pandemic over?"</strong></a>. In this video, I learned the three different approaches to pandemics. The first approach is titled "run through it," where everyone becomes exposed to the virus and either dies or builds up immunity to it, making exposure decrease over time with herd immunity. Second, there is "delay and vaccinate," where governments attempt to slow the spreading of the virus and study it in order to create a vaccine. Vaccines build antibodies to fight against the virus, lowering the severity of the illness that comes with the virus and building immunity to it. Lastly, there is "Coordinate and Crush," where quarantine, social distancing, and limiting travel results in the fizzling out of the virus within a short span. Obviously, all of these approaches have their pros and cons, but delay and vaccinate is ultimately the best option when aiming for the least amount of deaths and long term immunity.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Ecosystem of My Chosen Species</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Sunda Pangolin is a subset of 8 different pangolins, being known as a "scaly anteater" that lives in a tropical setting. This animal typically resides in the forests of Southeast Asia, ranging from ecosystems in Thailand to Singapore. The main living habitats of these animals are primary forests, secondary forests and wetland habitats. Research has discovered that the largest amount of Sunda Pangolins are found in the primary forests, having the largest population density in these areas. These Pangolins prefer to live in the primary forests because these habitats are layered with many densely packed trees. These trees make a safer living space for the Pangolins, with older trees being suitable for living spaces such as dens and nests. This type of aquatic algae is absolutely enormous in size, growing to around 30cm, for being a single celled organism and I was fascinated to learn that there even was a living organism that large.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The species that chose and have been doing research on is the Sunda Pangolin. I chose it because when I was researching different endangered species, I liked the look of the Sunda Pangolin and chose it. This species lives in wetlands, primary forests, and forests inhabited by old trees. Climate change, which is a very serious issue affecting the earth today, directly impacts the ecosystem of these Pangolins. Wetlands can be great for the environment, acting as a carbon sink and a home for many animals. Global warming can affect this habitat by causing droughts or floods, negative shifts in soil structure, and much more. As For dry forests, these are susceptible to forest fires as the dryer trees are more likely to set aflame and spread a fire. In addition to the droughts and fires that can be caused, primary forests can be affected by climate change and temperature shifts by bringing some invasive species into the ecosystem, greatly impacting the food chain and survivability of many animal species. Speaking of invasive species, the Sunda Pangolin can be impacted by these invaders by reducing food availability and potential new predators. In addition to their status of being critically endangered, climate change poses a great risk for my species.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>Sunda Pangolin Evolution</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>My species, the Sunda pangolin, has evolved over time to become a very unique species. Pangolins are the only mammals that are fully covered in scales, which are made of keratin. The Sunda pangolin has evolved to have a long, sticky tongue that can grow up to around 40cm in length, which is used to catch ants and termites, their primary source of food. They have also developed powerful claws for digging in termite and ant nests. Over time, the Sunda pangolin has developed a unique defense mechanism to protect itself from predators. When threatened, it will roll into a tight ball, with its scales acting as armor to protect its soft vulnerable parts. This defense mechanism is quite effective against many predators, even humans, who unfortunately still hunt pangolins for their scales and medicinal purposes. Despite their adaptations, my species is currently classified as a critically endangered species, with populations declining rapidly due to habitat destruction, poaching, and trafficking.</div>]]></description>
