Peasants in the audience wouldn't really understand all of the more intellectual scenes and when a comical character was added and crude humoresque was used to describe and mock women. This could mean that she is not allowed to leave the house unless it's for some kind of religious purpose and so if she were to say that she was going to see a boy, her father wouldn't like it. This is especially true because she is already being married to Paris.
