         <description><![CDATA[<div>As Basketball Ireland (2013) highlight, basketball is the number one sport for females under 16. Therefore, it should typically be a very popular sport for the 12/13 year old pupils in my class. Furthermore, as first years often find it difficult to integrate into the class (Warren, 2016) and as basketball is a team sport, it will be a very suitable scheme to apply the cooperative teaching model to. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nW17a-YJ8R0">Cooperative learning</a> involves students working together to seek beneficial outcomes and shared goals. Students discuss material with each other, help one another understand it, and encourage each other to work as a team (Johnson &amp; Johnson, 1999).  </div><div> </div><div>Despite this class having a wide range of varying ability levels, a cooperative learning strategy which includes small teams of varying ability can use a variety of learning activities to improve both pupils’ individual learning and presents pupils with the opportunity to peer teach their teammates until everyone on their team can achieve the outcome of the activity (<a href="https://itunes.apple.com/ie/book/senior-cycle-physical-education/id682044947?mt=11">Luttrell &amp; Chambers, 2013</a>).</div>]]></description>
