Germany resumes unrestricted submarine warfare (1917)

After the sinking of the Lusitania in 1915, Germany continued with unrestricted submarine warfare in 1917. This was significant because they would continue to attack any U.S. merchant or passenger ships without any notice whatsoever. This was a great violation of the American people and their rights, and had been done with no valid reason. Since Germany also kept pushing the U.S., this was a justifiable reason for the U.S. to join the war.

Propaganda (1917)

Propaganda was an important factor in the U.S. during WW1 because it sparked nationalism among its people. Nationalism highly encouraged people to volunteer to join the war effort directly, and even indirectly through calls to action. Propaganda was widely used in the country and even for other things, such as the food conservation and war bonds, which also inspired much nationalism among the American people and successfully encouraged them to comply with the requests of the government. With this, the people of the Home Front would indirectly contribute to the war effort, which had a positive impact on the overall war.

Conservation of food (1917)

By conserving food for the soldiers of the Allies, they could be provided with the essential foods they needed to continue fighting in the war. Especially since there were millions of soldiers, feeding them was obviously a necessity since meat, sugar, and wheat were extremely important sources for them to be well nourished. This act is significant because it would not only provide all soldiers with their meals, but also prevent them from experiencing any issues, such as starvation or famine. In addition, this would also help in preventing or lowering the possibility of food scarcity in the nation.

Income tax and war bonds (1917)

The U.S. government proposed an income tax and sold war bonds in order to raise the money they needed to fund the war. This was significant because the war was extremely expensive and the U.S. needed to pay for the equipment, technology, and other required resources for its troops to prepare for fighting. With not much money available to be put towards the war, the soldiers would lack in the things they need and the nation would lose the war. However, with the taxes applied to income and war bonds being widely available to purchase, the government would be able to earn and borrow enough money from their people. If this were to be successful, which it was at this time, a large amount of money could be raised so it can be spent on the war effort.

The Battle of Cantigny was a major battle during WW1 because it was the first battle that the U.S. had won. This was important since it prevented Germany from capturing Cantigny and advancing in the war, while also promoting courage and confidence in their allies, and especially the French. This win also proved that the U.S. is trustworthy and capable of fighting with the Allies against Germany in the war. In addition, the capturing of Cantigny would be an important overlook point for the war.

Although there were many casualties, the Second Battle of the Marne was important because it was a major turning point for the U.S. and the Allies in WW1. This was a crucial battle since the win would allow the Allies to advance further into the war. This is because it caused great devastation for the Germans and it would not be possible any longer for them to win the world war. As a result, this also contributed to the gradual advancement towards the end of the war and win for the Allies.

This battle was significant because it was a key factor in leading the U.S. and the Allies to finally bring an end to the war. If Germany were to be defeated, it would be the final push into moving towards the end of the world war. Although the aftermath was extremely devastating with destruction to the area and a multitude of casualties, the American troops would successfully defeat the Germans with this final attack and prevent them from making a comeback. Therefore, the victory ultimately led to Germany's surrender and the war was officially over.

Due to the hefty cost of the war for the U.S., taxes were still an important factor in raising money. However, this would be a lasting consequence for the nation because not enough money was raised and heavy taxes were imposed to gain more with the high demands of many products. This caused inflation to occur and the growth of the economy slowed down after the war. Meanwhile, the nation's debt continued to grow gradually over time.

This act is significant to the U.S. because it was the first national draft that was successful. In the case of a shortage in soldiers for war or an emergency, the government would already be prepared and could draft as many men as they needed into the military to serve the nation. This would also be important later on because the men participating in this act could be called to serve their country at any time if they were to be drafted. Though, it would become a lasting consequence since it became mandatory for men of the age range and there were some who did not agree with its orders.

Both of these acts were significant because they led to an important consequence in regards to free speech. Freedom of speech through the First Amendment could actually be limited, but depending on the context of what is said. This was very important during the war and in the future of it because it would prevent anyone from causing any harm to the U.S. government and its military. It was also important since disobeying these laws would result in consequences similar to those of committing federal crimes.
