Daisy tries to act curious that she doesn't know who Gatsby is by saying, "Gatsby?’ demanded Daisy. ‘What Gatsby?" (14 Fitzgerald) She does this to make sure that Nick doesn't know that she was once entangled to marry and was with Gatsby before. Daisy also tries to change the subject after Tom had gone into another room to answer a phone call by saying, "I love to see you at my table, Nick. You remind me of a— of a rose, an absolute rose. Doesn’t he?’ She turned to Miss Baker for confirmation. ‘An absolute rose?" (17 Fitzgerald) Daisy tries to change the subject from Tom leaving because she knows that he is cheating on her and doesn't want Nick to know because he is her family member and there would be chaos. One of the actions she took was excusing herself to attend to Tom to try and get him off the phone with him and his mistress, this shows that Daisy wants Tom to forget about his mistress. She also decided to tell Nick about her daughter and while she is explaining it she takes a little jab at Tom by saying when she was born, Tom was somewhere else, showing that Tom really didn't care for Daisy as much as he should. Daisy is located from page 12-22 and during the beginning of Chapter 1 that gives you the introduction to the rest of the story.
