I believe that the 8th commandment "Thou Shalt Not Appropriate Other People’s Intellectual Output" is one of the guidelines that student violate the most.

Q2. Why do you think these violations occur?

I believe students often violate this guideline because of pressure to finish assignments quickly, the lack of time management, it could also be that they simply do not know how to properly give credit to a source, they might also not know how to paraphrase properly and they might simply be plagiarizing on accident, or they may not fully understand what counts as plagiarism and what doesn't.

Q3. What do you think could be done to reduce or eliminate such unethical behavior?

I believe that in order to reduce this, schools can teach students early on how to cite sources and explain why giving credit is important. Teachers can also give clear lessons on how to paraphrase properly, since many students get confused and may accidentally plagiarize without realizing it. In addition, teachers could also encourage open communication with students to ensure that if and when a student is struggling or unsure about something they can provide the time to help prevent mistakes and promote honesty in their work.
