Undergraduate students who are interested in participating in research with an ABE faculty member should contact the faculty member directly. The ABE advising office does not connect students with faculty for research opportunities nor do they keep a list of research opportunities available for students.

Students working with ABE faculty

After a student has identified an ABE faculty member to work with and has been invited by that faculty member to work in their lab, a contract (contract link) will need to be completed and signed by the faculty member and the student. This contract must be submitted for review by the ABE Academic Programs Committee via the link on the Contract form. Then the student will need to register for ABE research credits. Students will need to add research credits via Scheduling Assistant using the "+ Variable Title Course" button. If a student uses the "+ New Course" button, their override request will be denied. Please note that research credits can only be added during Open Registration; students should not include research credits when submitting their Course Request Form (CRF) during the batch registration process.

ABE students working with non-ABE faculty

After an ABE student has identified a faculty member to work with and been invited by that faculty member to work in their lab, the student will need to register for research credits. If the faculty member does not have an appointment with ABE, the student will need to register for research credits in the faculty member's home department. Students should contact an advisor in that department for more information on how to register for research credits in that department.

Research as Required Course or Elective (or Selective) Credits (ABE students only)

ABE students who wish to use research credits towards their required course or elective (or selective) totals need to meet with your advisor.

Non-ABE students should check with their academic advisor regarding what degree requirement, if any, research credits can be applied to.

I wanted to share with you key dates and deadlines for Fall 2025 Commencement.

• The next date that you need to take action begins on OCT 3. Please review the information listed below for details.

• Please be aware that if you miss the deadline to complete the Commencement Task List, you will not be allowed to “walk” in the ceremony.

• The Commencement Task List will appear as a new card on your My Purdue.

• Additional information can be found on Commencement website: https://www.purdue.edu/commencement/index.html

• Since you are on track to graduate in December 2025, you will not receive a link to schedule a registration advising meeting for Spring 2026.

• ABE’s Ceremony will be held under Division II, - Sunday, December 21, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. ET. You will need to arrive and check in at the Armory at 1:30 p.m. This is AE, ENRE, BE (walk with College of Engineering), and ASM (walk with College of Agriculture).

Commencement Key Dates and Deadlines

September 19, 2025 -- Last day to apply to graduate for Fall 2025.

October 3, 2025 -- Commencement task list opens at 8:30 a.m. Cap and Gown information will appear after you complete the participation link and refresh the page. The Commencement Task List will appear as a new card on your My Purdue.

November 7, 2025 -- Last day to indicate participation in the ceremony.

November 28, 2025 -- Last day to order cap and gown rentals at the discounted price.

December 5, 2025 -- Last day to order cap and gown rentals through the Commencement task list. All rental orders after this date will need to be placed through the University Bookstore.

December 19, 2025 -- Last day to provide diploma mailing address and pay for Federal Express.

January 7, 2026 -- Anticipated date for Winter 2025 cleared degrees to be posted to official transcripts and diplomas ordered. See FAQ for delivery timeline.

January 12, 2026 -- Deadline to resolve deficiencies for Winter degrees.

January 21, 2026 -- Deadline to ship back gown rental to Herff Jones

Emma Brehm, social work grad student, will be with us for the entire school year to assist in supporting our engineering students starting Monday, Oct. 20. In May 2026 she will graduate with the same social work degree that both Jennie and I have earned (albeit a few years ago)!

Emma has started Check-In & Chat for our students - No therapy. No diagnosis. No appointment. Just confidential walk-in hours to talk about whatever students want to discuss...personal issues, time management, stress, and more. Emma is super supportive, nonjudgmental, and full of great ideas and resources!
