What I found hard or didn’t prefer was getting during lines. What worked with this masterpiece was how the sky blends and contrasts with the wave. I liked the technique of blending the most I found it worked really well with my piece. The oil pastels i did not enjoy as much because of the lower ability of small detail. I found my chalk pastel piece to be more successful. I also didn’t like how splotchy my piece turned out. I could have done better at blending. What I like about my piece was the lines I was able to get and contrast with. The colors all work together. I liked the technique of how to apply contrast on this piece. I really enjoyed the gradients and the lack of colour contamination of the chalk. This allowed me to play more with the shadows and the subtle colours of the piece. However, the lack of layering and the struggle with texture and paper type would be a few detriments. They are not as permanent as the oil pastels as well. I do enjoy the smudging and colour vibrance of both, but the texture of the oil pastels save me a lot of work and they smudge in a very predictable way. Mixing the two types together would be favorable..

2. Of the various techniques explored, which ones worked best for this project?
Smudging and creating gradients with the chalk allowed me to share in a believable way! Mixing colours through the powder alone let me create subtle highlights. The colour layering wasn't something that worked that well and the chalk soaks up the water from the protectant, which ultimately loses time.

3. Which of the two master work projects was more successful and why do you think so?

The wave and the Atlas slave have a bit more impact, generally this can be attributed to the colour impact and a better choice of collage.

I enjoyed seeeing how nicely the soft pastels blended, plus they didn't leave thick residues on the supplies. Then again I could make finer details as the soft pastels gave the art a smoother and cleaner finish than the oil pastels.  The only thing that i bit frustrating was having to get rid of chalk dust and making sure i dont smudge the piece in other areas, which is something I didnt experience with oil pastels.

2. Of the various techniques explored, which ones worked best for this project?
There was some layering here and there plus knowing the different things i could use to blend so i dont mix or smudge different colors together worked quite well. Things I used to blend were all of fingers with individual colors, q-tips, a makeup blender and tissue paper.

3. Which of the two master work projects was more successful and why do you think so?
I think perhaps my first one was more successful because it captures the artist style, and what my icon was.
