This toolkit offers a variety of diagnostic, formative, and summative assessment tools for Nova Scotia's Grade 12 Chemistry Curriculum. Padlet was used to offer a visual representation of the Acids and Bases unit and its six subcategories. A colour code palette was used to differentiate among the different units and types of assessments (see the format below this entry). Unlike the lengthy and wordy syllabus, this graphical tool allows educators to visualize the class organization at a quick glance, where most 'pads' are hyperlinked directly to additional assessment tools and resources.

The diagnostic tools aim to gauge prior knowledge of specific concepts in this unit that will allow the educator to adjust their lessons accordingly. Students will have the opportunity to assess their background knowledge through interactive simulations, quizzes, forms, and discussions through Padlet.

A few traditional formative assessment tools are included in this toolkit such as quizzes and worksheets. There are also more engaging formative assessments including online and in-person lab experiments that students will be guided through with a detailed procedure. Students will practice their lab techniques and ability to apply theory learned in class to real-life examples through the online and in-person lab experiments.

The two summative assessments will assess student understanding of multiple outcomes after the concepts were scaffolded through lessons, diagnostic, and formative assessments up to that point. These larger assessments will allow students to demonstrate their learning through a Google Forms assignment and titration lab experiment.

Each student will be given a set of questions in Google Forms, similar to the one attached to this Padlet. The student will not be able to move on to each of the questions until they can get the right answers for all the problems and they upload their work digitally to the google form. If they are struggling with a problem, they will go to a peer or the teacher for assistance in solving the problem. Once the students have successfully completed each problem and their work has been verified by the teacher they will receive full marks and a complete for acid and base stoichiometry.

What happens when acids and bases are mixed together? What variables determine the final outcome? Concentration? Volume? Nature of the acids and bases? Using the following simulator, first PREDICT what you expect and then play around with the apps. Enjoy :)Make a few predictions using the following statement, and then see what happens:

When I mix X molecules of Y, with Z molecules of X, I expect the final solution to be (acid/basic/neutral)
