Guest Speaker Series

Using Padlet for introduction videos makes the Guest Speaker Series more interactive and engaging. Students can upload videos and add text to share their backgrounds, interests, and questions for the guest speakers. The guest speakers can view these posts in advance, helping them tailor their talk to the students. Padlet also allows comments, encouraging interaction and a sense of community. Its simple organization makes the activity easy to follow and supports meaningful connections between students and the speakers.

Activity based on the unit "Live the News". Students were journalists and post their title and summary of article. The content choice was open. The result show a beautiful time capsule and allow for nice reflections.

Go to your course Canvas site ➔ Assignments
Create New Assignment ➔ Submission Type ➔ External Tool

External Tool ➔ Select Padlet LTI
Select an existing Padlet or make a new Padlet

Keep this in mind when using your Brown Padlet account

Only students in your course Canvas site will be able to access the Padlet.
Students need to be logged in to access the Padlet. This is usually not a problem for class assignments since they are embedded in Canvas. However, there could be some technical issues if you are using Padlet for the first time for an in-class activity.
If using Padlet outside of your class or outside Brown, we recommend using the free Padlet account (there is a 3 board limit).
You can migrate boards on your free account to your Brown account (unlimited boards).

Imagine that it is the first day of class and you want your students to create an introduction post using Padlet.

Go to one of your Canvas course sites and create an assignment using the Padlet external tool.
Make a new board. You can choose a layout for your board by going to Settings > Layout > Format. The formats available are Wall, Canvas, Stream, Timeline, Grid, Stream, Map.
Add instructions for the activity. Experiment with the layout and features.

*If you would like to create a Padlet for a different activity, feel free to do so.
