They loved Adrian but are still protective of him, he wanted to go investigate some Anarchists because he wanted to prove himself worthy of being a hero just like his dads. But they refused to let him. I relate to him because I also have amazing parents who sometimes I think underestimate me. I know they're intentions are good but it feels like they still treat me as if I was a 10 year old incapable of taking care of myself, but I still love them very much.

He had just woke up after he got beaten up by Nightmare (which is Nova, but he didn’t know), but he revealed that he also had a secret identity, the Sentinel. We got to know more about his powers, how he can make anything he draws real and his fire manipulation.

One thing the point of view affected the story was that we get to learn more information. If it was just from one character, we would only know information about them. If it were just written in Nova’s POV, we would have known that she encountered the Sentinel when he was trying to shoot the Captain, but we would have never known that Adrian was the Sentinel.

Response 6 (RENEGADES) :

I love this book, personally I would probably rate it 4.5 out of 5. I love how this book was written in two points of view of the two main character. I find it easier to understand the story when I have two people narrating it. And because the main characters hid so many secrets from each other, I was very curious to see what the other characters thoughts and feelings. I really like the author decided to add secret identities, I think it is a great way of creating more suspense. I also loved the superpowers part, I loved reading about each of the characters powers and their alias. I really enjoyed the story from Nova's POV, I watched her change her opinions and partly struggling with her thoughts. I also liked the romance of this book, especially when it's not focused on very much, but it's still there. One thing I didn't like as much was how slow the first 100 pages were, I prefer books that kind of go straight into the story and the conflict. Other than that it is definitely worth the time to go through the 600 pages, it passed by so quickly when you enjoy the story.

Nova, despite being Ace Anarchy's niece and has hated the renegades her whole life, has changed her opinion about the renegades throughout the story. When she interacted with more and more of these superheroes, she began to realize how they're not as bad as she expected they were, especially because of all the kindness Adrian has shown her, and she struggles with her feelings towards him because she knows he's her enemy. I relate to this because I've had been in situations where I misjudged a person or their actions, most people were definitely different from what I imagined they were like when I first met/heard about them.

Response 3 (RENEGADES) :

Nova Artino is very much believable, although she is painted as the 'villan' in the world she lived in, she has her reasons that lead to it, which is why that makes her character more realistic. Nova is an Anarchist, and the niece of the leader of the Age of Anarchy. Nova is very sarcastic, one thing I love about her. She tends to push people away, because she has never really experienced being close with those who are not family. What made her character more believable was the way she was struggling between the Anarchists and the Renegades, just because she was "born" an Anarchist and it had influenced her, she still sees the good in the Renegades. I relate to some of the situations and feelings Nova has been through, but mostly, I don't think I'm like her very much.

One main character wouldn't be in all of the action and scenes that have occurred throughout the book. Having different points of view gives the reader more scenes to read about. For example, Nova passed out in the middle of trying to save Max, Adrian's little brother, who has a quarantine room for unknown reasons. Nova didn't realize that Max has the ability to absorb other people's energy and powers, so when she went into the room and helped him get up after he fell, Max took her power away when they physically touched. After she had passed out, Adrian rushed in to save her and took her to the doctors in the building. He was worried about her because nobody else has been that close to Max before, and he didn't know if she'd live.

This really affects the story because now we now what happened when Nova wasn't conscious, and throughout this chapter, I could really tell how much Adrian cared for Nova, he could have risked his own life trying to save her from Max's powers.

Response 1 (RENEGADES) :

At the end of the story, the author left us off with a cliffhanger. Nova was speaking to her fellow Anarchist, Phobia, about how Ace Anarchy's helmet that he used in battles was not really destroyed by the Renegades. She discovered that they didn't know how they could break it, and the helmet's still located somewhere in the building. At the end, Ace Anarchy came alive. I was really confused cause I thought he was dead.

But my prediction was that somehow, he lost his helmet during the fight with the Renegades, and since the helmet was such an important part of his strategies and powers, he couldn't fight without it. So he faked his death convincing everybody he was gone for good, and waited until Nova discovered where his helmet was before he revealed himself. I think this changes the plot completely, because Ace might start another war with the Renegades.

Response 4 (RENEGADES) :

I think one of the main topics discussed in the book Renegades, is the idea of good vs. bad. In traditional stories, the books were always told in black and white, you were evil if you were a villain, and good if you were the hero. This story however, really changed that concept. The two main character's are your typical villain and hero, but they're both not completely bad or good. We can tell that Nova, the Anarchist do really want to help people have a better world, even if she was painted as the villain. And also that Adrian, a Renegade adopted by two superheroes, broke rules of a superhero in order to find out more about his real mother's death. We can see throughout the story that each character conflict with their original identities and I think that's why it makes the story so interesting to read about. I love her Nova is not just a villain because she is, but her backstory really helps me understand her decisions and actions.

Different narrators does not only change the perspective, there's also a different feel to it, it's like talking to two people with different thought process and personalities. The conflict might even be different for each character.

For Nova, it was her struggling to mend her relationship with the Anarchists she grew up with after she had left for the Renegades. Her friends, Especially Ingrid, was upset at her and thinks the Renegades have changed her in some way. She also has a difficult time choosing between two sides, being influenced by the Renegades, she is slowly realizing and change her opinions, but her head refuses to believe so, and she has an internal conflict with that.

Adrian struggles with his dads, he wants to go out and investigate the Anarchists but they won't let him. The night Adrian encountered Nightmare, she told him something he knew the villain that killed his mother had said.

Response 5 (RENEGADES) :

I really like Marissa Meyer's writing style and personally, I think she is doing pretty well. She definitely does a great job of creating suspense, because whenever a conflict or fight occurs, she switches points of views. So if the other character is not involved or not involved yet in this problem, we are left with what we've read so far, wondering what would happen next. And she has me hooked to read the second book of the Renegades series because of the cliffhanger at the end of the first book. She does a great job of writing dialogues, I think the author really thought about the character's differences in personalities and ways of speaking, so everybody talks in different ways. There are a variety of good word choices that the author used in this book, and some figurative language to help the readers understand the story better, but not too much which makes it still understandable. Sometimes the author uses flashbacks because not all information about characters are told in the beginning of the chapters, and we learn more about the backstory of each character and what causes them to be like themselves today.

Although the readers could infer characters that are not the narrator's feelings, it is difficult most of the time. But with switched points of view, we get to see more of each character's feelings.

For example, Nova was hanging out with Adrian on the Ferris Wheel while they were searching for Nightmare from Winston's misleading evidence. They were having a fun conversation but something seemed off. Nova was sure Adrian was upset over something but she wasn't sure what.

Then we switched to Adrian's point of view. He was thinking of how he thinks nightmare won't be at a theme park yet he's desperate to find out where she might be. Because he needs to get information from Nightmare because she seemed to be the only person to know who truely killed his mother.

Renegades has me hooked when Nova was in the middle of a conflict. The author of this book does a great job of creating suspense, whenever a conflict or fight occurs, she switches points of views. So if the other character is not involved or not involved yet in this problem, we are left with what we've read so far, wondering what would happen next.

When Nova rushed into Max's quarantine room and helped him up, she passed up immediately due to Max's absorbing powers. She was known as 'Insomnia', her power was that she didn't have to ever sleep, but since Max took that away for her, she was able to close her eyes the first time in years. We got left off from there when the next chapter follows Adrian's pleasant evening, and how he was planning to get Nova sandwiches, not knowing what type of danger she is in, I wanted to read more and more because I can't wait any longer to find out what happened to Nova. And that encouraged me to read for a much longer time than I intended to.

She narrated that all of these people had very different types of hair and the texture. This is a mirror for me because most of my family member's hair is different as well. My hair is medium length and falls down on my shoulders, it's smooth but a bit on the thicker side. My mom's hair is slightly wavy and longer, she has bangs on her sides and often puts her hair in a bun. My dad's hair is short and straight. While my brother's hair is curly and thick, I think he has the hardest time taking care of his hair because of how curly it is.

But we see that from this chapter that she is not so quiet anymore, and she might have been only shy to Esperanza when they first met because they weren't close. Lucy and Rachel were name calling Esperanza and Nenny, and Lucy ended up being very playful and not as quiet as she was when we were first introduced to her. Rachel still seemed like the fierce little girl who can't watch her mouth, honest and rude most of the time. While Esperanza feels defensive towards her sister, and her mother as her friends were making jokes about her and her family. We can tell that despite of what she felt earlier in this book about her family "tying her down" from her dreams, she still cares about them deeply as they are her family.

One of the other Supreme commander of the Reestablishment who ruled Asia, sent his son, Haider to visit North America hoping to find out more about their system and take notes of the new commander, AKA Juliette.

Juliette was in no way prepared for this, she didn't know Haider was coming until he quite literally showed up at her building. She was embarrassed by her lack of knowledge about meetings and worldwide situations involving the Reestablishment, and also felt intimidated by Haider who acted as if she was just a clueless child.

"All day -- and for the last couple of weeks -- I've felt like an imposter. She often feels intimidated by others around her and since she's been in isolation for so long, she wasn't sure what she could become or what she is capable of doing. After going through her problems with her powers and figuring out how to control it, she thought she was behind her past self, the one who could kill a person with a single touch. But her past lingers on to her and it won't let go, and she feels even more confused and put down with all the pressure going on.

I can relate to this because I know what it's like to not love yourself the way you'd want to. And although my situation is a lot better than Juliette, I still feel sympathetic towards her and I understand what she is going through.

We see Warner being distant in Juliette's point of view, and she is worried about him and her relationship with him in general, Juliette realizes that she have not gotten the opportunity to really get to know him. In Warner's point of view, we see Warner struggling with his dad's death, and he is still in denial about it. Warner's father, Anderson was a terrible person. He was abusive towards Warner ever since he was a child and forced him into training and made him into the "monster" Warner believed he was. But Warner still grieve over his father, even if it's not willingly.

I can't relate to this because I have never lost a family member, or an abusive/terrible family member.

Response 6: RESTORE ME

I really love the story so far, it is the first book of a second trilogy. I love the twist because I didn't expect there to be more books after the finale, but the author turned it into something new. She added so much more to the characters and their backstory, and I was amazed at how well it was done because I thought the last trilogy ended with no way to expand the story. It also made me realize how little I really knew about some of the characters, and why this second trilogy was needed. I love the new point of views, so now we get to be in Aaron Warner, the main male character's head as well as Juliette's, which wasn't something the first three books had, I also loved the author's writing and parts from Juliette's journal when she was in isolation, about how trapped, lonely, and depressed she felt. I feel like this book has touched upon some heavy topics, that's why I wouldn't recommend it for someone who just wants a fun and easy read.

Later on in the story, more and more children of the Supreme Commanders of different sections of the Reestablishment were sent to Section 45. Most of these people from all these continents have grown up around Warner and are familiar with him. But Juliette still suspects them and wonders why they all came all of the sudden. She realizes that all of the Sections and countries are against each other, and because of the assassination of Supreme Commander Anderson, Warner's father, they had to get to know the new leader. They would pretend to be friendly, stay at their section for a few weeks or month, figure out their weaknesses and how to overcome Juliette, and then report back to their parents. Juliette feels that she has not made a great impression, as far as the other people know, she was just a foolish 17 year old not knowing what to do or how important the position she holds is. And that puts a lot of pressure on Juliette, because she already has a lot on her mind, and she isn't doing very well ruling Section 45 so far, but now with everyone watching her every move, she can't afford to make more mistakes and needs to prove to these people that she is capable of what she wishes to accomplish. So after one final breakdown when things get complicated with Warner, she decides that she will get it together and act like a real leader.

Her whole life, even though it was terrible, has been a lie.

Response 1 - RESTORE ME

I have already finished the book, where the story ended with Juliette getting taken away to her biological parents, who were Supreme Commanders and powerful. I can predict that they would try and welcome her home, because she has proven herself capable of the things they thought she would, but she would be mad. Juliette would feel this way because from evidence in every one of the Shatter Me books, you could tell that she hated her childhood and her past life, she was treated terribly and that had been something that had haunted her since forever. She wasn't just going to walk into their open arms, she would be so infuriated at them for lying to her about her whole life, how they turned her in to an experiment. She would feel like they never even cared for her, they erased her memories and sent her to an abusive home, then threw her into a prison cell where she was isolated for a year. Juliette has always been bad at handling her own emotions, let alone powers. I feel like she would be out of control of her own abilities and her powers would overflow with emotions she has, and it would end up either saving her, or getting her into more trouble.

They feared that the same would occur to Juliette, so they erased her memories and gave her away to a childless couple, and she has been monitored ever since. The Reestablishment had known about her powers from day one, they watched as she developed her abilities and finally when she accidentally killed a boy, they arrested her and put her into isolation for about a year.

Response 2 - RESTORE ME

The thing about this book is that most of the action and the plot doesn't arise until the end, leaving the readers to a cliffhanger. But throughout the story, even thought there aren't many external conflict, the main characters Juliette and Warner go through internal conflicts where their real enemies are themselves and they have to fight those fears away in order to work out their new positions in the Reestablishment.

There are many conflicts like that but one main conflict is Juliette struggling with being the new Supreme Commander of Section 45, which is all of North America. At such a young age, and with no proper education on politics and things you need to know to be able to rule a system in government, it was difficult for her. And because she strongly disagrees with a lot of the things the Reestablishment believes in, it was hard for her to take on the role, let alone having other countries spy on her at all times.

It affects Juliette the most because she is put under all this pressure and stress, she is clueless as to what to do, and she is also going through problems with some of the people close to her. But it leads up to her being open with her opinions and keeping it together, acting like a real leader.

She wasn't allowed to do religious things or wear anything that relates to it because of the Reestablishment's rules, but she does despite having her father being one of the rulers for this government.

Kenji, a side character points that out to Nazeera. And even though he didn't mean it in a bad way, Nazeera defended her beliefs and told her that she did not care if the Reestablishment wanted to take that away from her, and that it's not right to.

Juliette was amazed at how Nazeera speaks and stands up for herself, later admired how she was so subtle and always keeps it together.

Nazeera was a lot of things Juliette wishes herself to be, and later the two talked and after advice given from Nazeera to Juliette, she decides that she is going to change for good. And she ended up getting herself back to her feet and starts acting like a real commander, she wasn't easily put down by others and acted calmly to their insults.

Response 3 - RESTORE ME

The main character of this book is Juliette Ferrars, who has the power of her lethal touch, she could kill someone just by having contact with their skin, which is what makes her so dangerous and feared. Although all this is true, she is not written as "invincible" by the author, which makes her more realistic to me.

Everyone has their faults and flaws, for Juliette, it's her incapability of control over her emotions. For the first two books I was convinced she was weak, not in a way that's bad, but through all the things she's been through at such a young age, I think it's normal for her to feel and act that way. She does not know how to control her powers until the last book of the trilogy, and she struggles with understanding what she is capable of doing. Juliette's conflicts are mainly internal, which is one thing I find that makes her seem more "real".

I can connect with her sometimes when she's making all these emotions take over her and bring her down, and I often have the same experiences. But mostly, I have more "windows" and I learn more from her experiences rather than connecting them with my own. This is because despite some of our similarities, she has struggled through so much more and been in harsher situation that makes me realize how lucky I am, and I learn from her what I could do to help myself in those situations.

And because she has been struggling with those traits herself lately, seeing it on another human makes her admire that more. I can relate to this because I have often felt jealous of others based on what they could accomplish and their personalities or looks in general, especially if I am lacking those traits. But Juliette deals with this jealousy in a good way to push herself forward and become what she wants to be, and I learn from this that I should do the same if I really wish I could have those accomplishments I am jealous of.

Miscommunications have been a huge problem for Juliette lately, she feels that she does not talk things through with other characters that are close to her, and that resulted in distrust and them hurting each other, and it's also the reason why Juliette and Warner's relationship came to an end. This problem first appeared when Castle speaks with Warner, urging him to tell Juliette the truth about her past and more things about himself before things go wrong, but Warner is reluctant and ashamed of what he was like, and also feels that the truth will hurt Juliette, so he kept it to himself until later on in the story.

He was not wrong, but because of keeping this information for so long, Juliette felt more hurt because Warner has known about her real parents this whole time, and he didn't mention a thing.

Juliette also found out about Warner's past, and she suddenly realizes how much she does not know about him, and how they almost sort of rushed into this relationship without thinking it through or getting to know each other more beyond the surface level.

This helps Juliette better handle her relationships with others around her and maybe fix the problems that she and Warner had to move forward to try and rule Section 45 together.

Most of the characters we follow along the storyline have not been able to do that yet. Some of them have focused more on the new government system, trying to build a headquarters for people with special abilities, and planning to take down the Reestablishment. Mostly, they've never really thought about finding themselves until now, and this book is really when Juliette and Warner stop and think about what they want to be, and who they need to be in order to be strong and lead Section 45 while all these things are going on.

In Gilded, Serilda was gifted to her father by a god who he saved, she was the wish the god granted her father for the payment of saving him. But Serilda's father didn't know that this god was the god of lies, and Serilda grew up telling fake stories that she didn't even know before they were in her mouth. Her village thought of her as a burden, a curse, and blamed her for every misfortune that had came upon them. And Serilda also found it strange, the lies slipped past her tongue so quickly, and it was always easier to lie than to tell the truth.

Although I wouldn't like to admit, but I can relate to this because sometimes in situations, I find it way easier to make up something rather than letting someone know the truth. It just feels easier and less embarrassing, and even though I know it's not good for me, I still do it nevertheless.
