Well known doesn’t mean talented.
There are a lot good potentials, gifted artists in the world especially in Africa, however the lack of opportunities, help and support has left them on their own and they do with the little they have.

Africa has been underrepresented in galleries and at auctions, but it looks like collectors are eager to try something new may be developing an appetite for African art.

Fola Lawson is a greatly talented African artist. He started as a young boy visiting his uncle's workshop after school hours in Africa and making paintings with the crudest of tools available. He is inspired by mythology and has a very original idea about how to look at his artworks.
"Why not turn the painting and put it in the direction that you like the most? The painter answers. Regardless, the artist seems to make fun of the weightlessness of this world. So he takes height and altitude in his paintings. Then fly over empty spaces, immaculate white, a great brush stroke without feeling dizzy. His paintings are inspired by the world of African tales and fables.

Francesco Guardi was an Italian painter, best known as one of the last of artist of the Venetian school of painting. This movement was characterized by a focus on color and varied brushwork, rather than the line and sculptural draughtsmanship favored by the Italian Mannerists.
Guardi’s paintings are filled with dabs and flecks of color, which create a sense of light and movement in the sky, water, and gilded boats he often depicted.

The textures of these painting are rich, and the movement of the brush is imperious, dynamic.

The focal point that draws attention is surrounded by a large space highlighting it, be it the buildings and boats at Guardi, or this vertiginous maelstrom in Fola’s painting.

These two antinomic or complementary works, one serene and the other whirling, reflect not only two epochs and two very different continents, but also singular personalities.

The emptiness of the sky and the sea, the large skies and sea can be compared to the abstract background of the shapes designed by the African artist.

The apparent emptiness from where everything is born, deeply evoke the universe and its planets, the stars and the immensity that surrounds them. These two works come together in a feeling between the macrocosm and the microcosm. The techniques employed or deployed, although seemingly far apart, reflect the world around us.
