"Latino philosophers can gain much by looking outside. Of course, some might respond that we have been doing too much of that, and in the process have become intellectual slaves of others. And this is true to some extent. Even the work of those Latin-American philosophers who constantly harp about an authentic Latin-American philosophy are filled with views borrowed from Karl Marx, Levinas, Martin Heidegger, and other European philosophers. So, the right attitude has to be developed: A critical attitude toward ourselves and others. We certainly do not want to become, or continue to be, if that is actually what we have been and are, philosophical colonies of Europe, the United States, or any other place."

All in all, the interview was very insightful on how a Hispanic/Latino philosopher may think. Jorge J.E. Garcia brings up aspects as to what enables and disables an aspiring Hispanic/Latino philosopher. The primary aspect being culture. It's not only important to discover and discuss philosophical diversity outside of your culture, but maybe even more importantly, discover and discuss philosophical diversity inside of your culture as well. He ends the interview by saying that this should be applied to any philosopher in any culture, though.
