I understand the desire to regulate through law what can or cannot be discussed in a classroom setting, but I believe that this decision should ultimately be handled on a school-by-school basis. That is, each individual school should control its own policy. Ideally, this would mean that teachers serving in schools in marginalized communities can use the proper language needed to describe the societal positions of the school, the students, and their families. History is not always pretty. History in the making, a.k.a. current events, are not always pretty. Students do not need to be shielded from it. In fact, they should be exposed to the truth as openly as possible in order to help prepare them to be active, engaged citizens.

Overall, I disagree with state lawmakers regulating what is being taught in the classroom because the people making those decisions have not been in the schools seeing the curriculum in action.

I think the problem lies more with the people making these decisions than the practice of regulating what is taught. Surely it is important that lawmakers have something to do with the kind of education children are receiving (ex: ensuring the separation of public education and religion, appropriate standards, etc). Unfortunately, this opens the door to the problem of lawmakers regulating education on the basis of their own beliefs, and their constituency, rather than what is right for the children.

The state has the power to regulate what is taught in schools. Not all States choose to micro-manage. This is where the role of informed, engaged citizens comes into play. If ordinary citizens allow a small minded minority to impose its will you will have elected officials that cater to those small minded people. We have persons running for office right now in Nevada who would support micromanaging schools and engaging in censorship and control. Become informed. Oppose those candidates and pick better officials.

I don't think lawmakers should dictate what is taught in schools. I get that schools are public and standards/regulations are determined by the state, but deciding what should and should not be taught is a little extreme. I think curriculum should be determined by educators and administrators at the district or even school level. Curriculum should fit the students' needs.

I think lawmakers should have some say role in what is taught in classrooms, however I also believe there should be a system of checks and balances in place and that ideally, there should be a democratic process involved where educators should be able to voice on their input on what should be taught in classrooms as well, and have their voice count for something. That way, everyone can make a contribution.

Some people are afraid of CRT even when they do not even know what it is. I hear people that watch Fox News just repeating what they hear in the news. If we regulate what is taught we are not able to individualize Education for students that need it. May as well give them a tablet and test them at the end of the year.

I disagree that the state should control ALL that is being taught in the classrooms pertaining to Sexism, and issues or systematic inequality in the classroom. I understand States have the knowledge and history as backgrounds but teachers are the ones that have the experience therefore there should be room for teachers to have a say and also add their input that what needs to be taught in the classroom when it comes to the topics mentioned previously.
