I find this image interesting, and at least a little bit provocative. As a teacher, you often find yourself just wanting to appeal to the majority, so that you can get as much done as possible with the methods you are used to doing. However, what this image points out is that, with a little extra thought, a teacher can come up with something, be it a lesson, a method of engagement, what-have-you, that not only appeals to the majority, but to the entirety. And as the image points out, the alternative needn't even be anything more strenuous for the teacher than the "usual" method.

By catering to all of the student's needs it provides resources that can be accessible to all. By becoming a teacher that follows UDL, accomplishing this goal can be possible.

In order for students to find success in LRE you must include all students and make them feel no one is different than the other. Small things make a difference to all students. In my opinion diversity is an asset to a classroom.

If the man in this photo were to shovel the ramp first, every student would be able to gain access to the building. This is the kind of mindset that we need to incorporate in our classrooms. As a teacher, it is important to make sure we include all of our students when teaching. We have to address the issues in the material being taught and manipulate it with UDL, and "clear off ramps" so that each and every student can learn and take away from the lesson. If we don't follow this ideology, we will not only fail ourselves as educators, but we will also fail our students by handicapping them.

I found this image very interesting for a number of reasons. Primarily though, I believe it pointed out the disconnect people typically have with it comes to students with disabilities. All too often, students who are not the "norm" are stigmatized and seen as "other." However, as this comic proves, they can still be connected and seen in the same manner as their classmates. If the man had seen all the students on the same level, he would have known that clearing the ramp would be sufficient for all the students. However, he had labeled the disabled student as "other" and therefore did not consider the idea that they could all benefit from the same action.

Instead of separating children based on ability, wasting time and resouces and creating an environment of disunity, the teacher has the power to teach lessons that are applicable, accessible, and engaging for all students at the same time. This can be done through the use of stations that present and work through the material through different methods of representation and engagement, so everyone has a chance to learn through their preferred modality. This is directly related to the snow shoveler, who could save time and worry by allowing all students to access the building at the same time using the same ramp, as the teacher can help students access the information at the same time using the same classroom.

This image portrays how it is the teacher's responsibility to make sure that each child is being offered an opportunity to receive a quality education and there should be various forms of this opportunity that adhere to each child's unique needs. The teacher is the individual who sets the learning atmosphere for his or her students and unlike how the man in the image is only making an effort to help a select portion of the students, teachers should make the effort towards ensuring that each child has a path to achieve success in the classroom through methods that are able to accentuate a student's strengths, instead of their weaknesses.

This image is a really clear example of UDL and how it can impact all students. Rather than providing one set of lessons to "regular students," or those without disabilities, and then providing a separate lesson for those who have disabilities or are handicapped, my role as a teacher requires me to provide one set of lessons that is accessible to all. The role of a teacher should be to include all students and provide them with equal opportunities to succeed.
