Geometry sometimes gets generalized as "just shapes" but clearly it is vital for kids to be literate in geometry because it plays such an important role. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Classifying shapes gets more and more complex as students get older. The Common Core's aim is to slowly build the geometric schema layer by layer.  From recognizing shapes as wholes in Kindergarten to deducing proofs and theorems at the high school level, the CCSS plans to lay the framework so that students can be geometrically literate. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Composing and Decomposing Leads to Spatial Structuring</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I found the connection of composing and decomposing to spatial structuring to be quite interesting. The article stated that in grades K and 1, students begin to see that there are shapes with in other shapes. Being able to do this strengthens their spatial structuring which helps students when the get to arrays and multiplication in grade 3. Students will be able to break arrays apart into separate squares and rectangles which will give them the product. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In 4th Grade, students are required to learn a lot of new vocabulary in order to classify shapes and angles.They will be given shapes and have to classify them with a give category such as shapes with more that one acute angle. They will also be shown shapes that have an attribute in common and will have to create the category title themselves. This requires a lot of reinforcement by the teacher of the vocabulary. </div>]]></description>

They can already find area by multiplying length and width which was established in grade 3. Now, that height is introduced, students are easily able to find volume. </div>]]></description>

The same language was used throughout the document to show consistency throughout the grade levels. The CCSS was clearly designed to build upon the knowledge of the previous year and to prevent fundamental gaps. </div>]]></description>
