Its painfully boring to sit through a lesson that isnt advanced or for the wrong grade level for you. I hate being taught the same thing in english that the freshmen are learning because i've already learned it.

I have noticed that a lot of my classmates, including myself, respond well to humor in the our classes as well, so keeping a lively, interactive classroom helps to keep students engaged, too.

Most students that are engaged are looking at the teacher and looks attentive. In order to be engaged as a learner the teach must make the information relevent and interesting. Many teachers don't care if the students are engaged or not so the students never fix their behavior. When students are disengaged they are generally zoned out or distracted by something else making it difficult to learn anything.

When I feel like the teacher really cares, I find myself being more attentive because they are the peers I look up too. In times when I am struggling I find myself asking for help to the teachers because I feel comfortable. I like when teachers tell their own personal journey or history about the lesson. When there is a teacher to students interactions in class along with activities, I am interested because I can visually see a teacher talking in class.

Keeping students engaged involves tapping into their curiosity.Iin order to keep their attention and give them space to learn new materials they have to be interested in the content to begin with. This is hard because not all information they need to know is necessarily all that exciting and intriguing. So a good tool would be getting kids up and moving or learning in groups or delivering content in different styles. Even asking the learners what would best suit them could help!

There are so many more ways to disengage a student than to engage them, which presents the issue. A droning teacher who just hands out worksheets and lectures the class sounds like no fun and any learner would dread walking into that class. Another disengaging educator might show no support towards their learners, meaning if they ask for help on a lesson the teacher might respond with, "we covered that already, check your notes" or "that's not in my job description" or some other form of not aiding that kid. That could cause hurt feelings and make the student unwilling to listen to the teacher in the first place. A teacher with an emphasis on grades rather than learning would disengage a learner too, I think. For example, "remember class a C will let you pass this class so just worry about the essay portion of this test". This might reinforce the ideas that students might be having about doing the bare minimum.

Students become disengaged when doing "boring" or "non exciting" tasks. When a student is disengaged they either lash out/ disrupt, zone out or just do the minimum. Personally I disengage myself a lot in school while the teacher is talking but I can always come back from it!!

Students often engage in school seeking a reward (ex. Class rank, rewards, good grades) I do this as well, I strive to have great scholastic standing so it helps me keep p my grades and my understanding in classes. another way to engage kids is by making things fun for them, at my school we see a lot of fun days happen because the majority of the school is struggling and need a mental break!
