This design is able to meet the design specifications in the following way;
This product is able to be moved around since it has four caster wheels attached to it, meaning that it can be moved around or fixed in one place. 

This ramp can be folded, making it haft as small. This makes it easier to transport and store when not in use. 

This ramp is mainly made out of plywood because it is the material that is available is and strong enough to be able to use.  

I have most of the skill sets, tools, resources to be able to make this ramp. 

If I were to organize my time well, I would finish this product, Taking maybe 4-5 weeks to complete the ramp.

This ramp is at a slope of 1:12, making it more conformable for my client to use while also falling in the ADA  requirements for the ramp slope. 

This ramp also has foldable guardrails making it easier to move and also store if not needed. 

It is also the best design because 

Since it's mostly made out of plywood and has four caster wheels and a few hinges, I would gather the resources from a design class. 

I would be able to build this with my skills set because there is a lot of cutting, which I can use a power tool to do, and there are attaching the hinges and caster wheels which I can use the drill to do. 

I would build this within the time limit because I can use the power tools to help me complete this faster since this design is just a lot of cutting and hammering. 

This ramp also has Guardrails to help support people or prevent people from falling off, making it safer to use since the gap isn't big enough for people to fall off.

Functions: This ramp design must allow its users in wheelchairs or crouches to use independently, safely, and easily. The ramp must have something to guard the user against falling off the side. This must mean that it needs to have 
- 1:12 slope
- guardrails 
- Extended handrails 
- Portable
- The with of the ramp can be no less than 915mm since any smaller will make it so that people on the wheelchairs will not be able to access it.

These specs are also the requirements from the ADA standard that I will be following. 


Safety & size: The ramp must not have any sharp edges, and the top part of the ramp must not be smooth and should grip the wheel so that the people on wheelchairs don't slide. It should have guardrails, and the gap should not be wide enough for people to fall off.

Step 4: Get the 4 hinges, line up the hinges in the correct place stop as marked by picture 3.(15mins)

Step 5: Get the caster roller wheels and the 4 by 4 plywood attach them together by using the hammer and nails, do this to all four wheels. Then attach them into place as seen in picture 4. (30mins) 

 Step 6: Hammer one side of the guard rail to the other using two nails as seen in picture 5.  Then add the extended guard-rails at the end of both guard rails by using wood glue and a brush and masking tape or clam the pieces together. 1: I had to scale the design down by a lot, and it is now just a physical table model, as seen in picture 1. This is because it was massive and ensured that I had a completed product in a limited amount of time.

2: I did not add wheels to the smaller model because the model was tiny. There were no wheels for it, and making one would not be possible because it wasn't in the original cut-out. 

3: Instead of hammer and nails, I had wood glue since it was the best option I had. This is because the scaled-down model would break if I were to hammer the nails in, so there were limited ways to attach the model. 

4: I did not put the guard rails because there was a mix-up in the gluing process since the guard rails became crooked, as seen in picture 1, so I just cut out the extended part. 

5: There were no hinges because the design was too small, and the hinges were too big.

Based on the Looks, almost everyone that saw it thinks it is successful (about 86%) because the ramp put it
 together well. 

When comparing it with my Final design, most people rate it 7 (from 1 not very successful to 10 being very successful), which means it is somewhat successful. 

Based on the looks, about 73% of people think it is safe to use, and 93% believe that people in wheelchairs would have easier use. 

Do you think people in wheelchairs would be able to use this comfortably? 

Most of the responses were yes because the ramp doesn't look too steep and it has handrails.

Spec 1 
Aesthetic: This wooden ramp must have a simple design, and should not standout 

Compare: The Aesthetic is simple and the wooden ramp doesn't stand out. 

Spec 2 
Environment: This product must have a limited effect on the environment.

Compare: This product is made out of wood which means that it doesn't have a lasting effect on the environment. 

Spec 3
Functions: This ramp design must allow its users in wheelchairs or crouches to use independently, safely, and easily. The Ramp must have something to guard the user against falling off the side.  This must mean that it needs to have 
- 1:12 slope when attach to the 565mm tall stairs.
- guardrails 
- Extended handrails 
- Portable
- The with of the ramp can be no less than 915mm since any smaller will make it so that people on the wheelchairs will not be able to access it. 

Compare: The ramp does have a 1:12 slope at 565mm and guardrails however the final product doesn't have the extended handrails. It is Portable since you can fold the flaps, there should have been wheels, but because of time constraints, I wasn't able to put the wheels on the final product. The width of the product scale-up is 915mm. 

Spec 4: Does it fit the ADA standard 
My design have mostly met the requirements. however my final design doesn't have the extended handrails  due to time constraints I wasn't able to put it on.

Yes it is not a problem that is a immediate but would be  beneficial

yes since it has the guard rails to stop people from falling.

make the life size version and attaching the hinges so that it can tested

- My cutting because some of the lines weren't straight which can be seen in the picture 
-Smooth out my design a bit more because it looks a bit rough around the edges. 
- I was to use thicker wood because the one that I have used wasn't very strong or stack the wood together to make it a bit stronger since there was a lot of feedback telling me that it doesn't look that strong.
-To make an actual size product and make the flap foldable because the final product is just a prototype which is the feedback I have gotten from my client and my self-evaluation. 
-Add more glue or wait longer for the final design to be stronger and less fragile since that is most of the feedback I have gotten from google from. 
-Add 3 or 4 more Hinges per side since it might not be strong enough which I got from the theoretical stress analysis I did.
-Add the extended handrails and the wheels for the final design since it was on the specs, but wasn't in the final design.

This would give my customer a more accessible and safer time going up or down the ramp. Since this ramp has foldable flaps, it can also use it for different highs (at around 565mm or under). This means that my client would be able to use this ramp all over campus when needed, for example, the primary building where it's just the stairs as shown in pictures below, one of the places that people need to go through to go to the nurse's office.  And at the sports hall, the staff can use the ramp to get the cleaning machine in and out of the sports hall. The ramp can also use it at the main gate where this is no ramp.

The first design hasn't met the design spec of having guard rails, and the ramp can't easily move it since it's too big. The ramp may need additional support in the middle if used too frequently since nothing keeps it from breaking. 

The second design does have guardrails; however, it doesn't meet the specs of making it movable since it needs to be installed.

The third design does make it easier for people to move it around however it doesn't have guardrails, thus not meaning the specs.
