I believe emotional intelligence plays a major role in our personal development. We handle our emotions depending on what we feel. As an example; We can cheer up someone who is sad with words of encouragement. You do not know what a “Have a nice day” or an “I hope you are okay” can do to someone who really needs it.

Even our bad emotions and feelings can be canalized into something better. Another example is when you’re feeling mad angry. When you are on the climax of your rage you can start smashing things or you can scream your heart out but at the end of the day it is not going to be a big difference. But… why if you canalized all of that anger into something productive? Like playing a sport. You can always sweat your anger out or you can play an instrument. You could express your anger into a song. This way your bad feelings will turn into greater things and not something that could tear you apart from the inside.

In general, emotional intelligence works as a system that synergizes with our environment. If we are going through something that we do not like, something that saddens us, like a breaking up, the death of someone close to you or just feeling homesick when you are out of town, Emotional intelligence is in charge of corresponding those events into emotions. In this case, the emotions you will be feeling are sadness and melancholy.

As we saw in the movie, there so many different spectrums in our emotions and there are so many different combinations of feelings that maybe we cannot express it in words. In the last scene, Riley created a new memory out of sadness and joy. This is why Emotional Intelligence is more complex than it sounds.

I find it very interesting because our emotions make us act in so many different ways, makes us jump into different moods and the most important part of it is that makes us human.
