Twitter Chat Reflection

These Twitter chats are so captivating! It is crazy how fast time goes when I am busy reading teachers' insightful responses. This chat was particularly interesting because it focused on assessing students' social and emotional learning. This is something that I never realized was such an important component of teaching before I started taking education classes. As the teacher, it is your responsibility to be aware of every student's emotional well-being. In addition, it is necessary to help students develop interpersonal skills that they may not learn/practice at home. Overall, many of the links that I pulled from the discussion focus on giving students meaningful, specific feedback on their SEL, as well as implementing practices that allow students to set and assess their own SEL goals. Many teachers stated that students are often at different places socially/emotionally. It is clear that having students make individual goals (daily or throughout the semester) and having conferences to discuss these goals with students may be one of the most effective ways to address SEL. Furthermore, working to build strong relationships with students, as well as between students, will help create a safe, positive learning environment in the classroom.
