Question 1: How do developmental scientists study people? What are some advantages and disadvantages of each research method?

Developmental scientists study people by using the scientific method to create hypothesis and discover conclusions. This way of studying has benefits such as learning and understanding how humans behave, but some disadvantages arise with the fact that it is hard to isolate one person and compare them to another.

Question 2: What ethical problems may arise in research with humans?

Some of the moral issues that arise from studying humans can come with the conclusion, such as in the past studies apparently determined that persons of darker skin tones were genetically inferior to those of white races. Additionally, humans are monumentally complicated. For example, in the video it is described that three year old girls have more advanced fine motor skills than three year old boys. This study puts a mass label on all boys and all girls, when this factor could be caused by different situations, such as; where the boys not focused enough to draw in the lines? Do the girls have better fine motor skills than boys past the age of three?

Question 2: What purposes do theories serve?

Theories create a sense of conformity in a certain field, such as the theory of gravity or the theory of relativity. Theories also serve as a standing point or a point of reference in scientific fields because very little of what scientists discover can become factual, therefore when something in a scientific community is considered substantial, than it can become a theory.

Question 2: What are two (2) theoretical issues on which developmental scientists differ?

Cross sectional studying focuses on comparison and contrasting, information to decide what the differences are. Longitudinal studies occur when there are repeated studies done on a particular group over a period of time, allowing for research to be able to examine how something develops over time without having to worry about diversity.
