ELA - 11B - Print Advertising by Antonio Rice

Directions: Do some research on the web. Find an example of powerful print advertising (magazine or billboard) and explain how they are trying to persuade you. What are they saying on a deeper level? Answer two questions in your post: What do they want the consumer to do? How are they trying to persuade the consumer?

What do they want the consumer to do?
This ad is trying to get the consumer to buy some of their cough drops

How are they trying to persuade us?
They're using a play on words, comedy, and a bit of pathos to persuade us. It shows a situation where a cough would ruin the meaning of the sentence. For example here, the cough makes the "look good" sound sarcastic and we wouldn't want to seem rude to others. So it's witty and it also appeals to your emotion of being perceived as a nice person.

Base on this advertisement, I believe the propaganda technique that coca cola uses to advertise their products is the bandwagon technique. They gets more people to consume their products by sharing it with other people, seeing that your friends or family drinking it makes you want to drink it too.

By placing a quote "America's favorite mascara". This emphasizes that it is a trend and people should buy it since most people in America love this product. In addition, the quote " No wonder one is sold every 1.7 seconds", thus states that it is a popular item. This technique makes the crowd purchase it since everyone is buying it. This kind of advertisement mostly uses words like "join the crowd" or "popular now" to promote their goods and services to emphasize the impression. To make an individual join the mass and not be left out.

With the noticeable background of KFC’s standard logo and coloring makes this advertisement a nice thing.
