Jean-Paul is a combination of two names. Jean means god is gracious and is the French version of John. Paul is the name of a biblical apostle and means little or humble. Although my name sounds French, I have no connection to France in any way. My surname is probably derived from an old Dutch verb: opdiggelen. This means as much as 'refurbishing something' (or someone ;-) ).

Erik means 'honorable ruler' or 'eternal ruler'. However, my parents did not pick it based on its symbolic meaning. Still, it is something to aspire to. ;) I kid, of course.

Baan, on the other hand, has no lofty meaning and is simply translated as 'job' or 'lane' (in the meaning: bicycle lane). This meaning has often caused my name to be used as the butt of jokes.

So that's my name: short.
